PostSubject: Mosin Nagant time!   Thu 19 May - 11:23

A friend and I are heading out to the the Whittington Center here in a bit with my brothers Mosin Nagant. I brought the range finder this time because I kept falling about 6 feet short of the buffalo out on one of the ranges. I think its 1100 meters but not sure yet. She's shooting excellent out to 600 yards. Earlier this week I did a 7"  8 shot group at 600 so thats pretty damn good for a 70+ year old rifle. It was made in either '41 or 42. Can't remember now that the stamp is covered over by the scope mount.

I'll take some pictures guys.

Of interest...

I put my M/N up for sale on consignment a few weeks ago. They said to post it at 350.

I thought that extreme even though it was an exceptionally nice and
clean rifle. I only bought it two years ago for 129. (There were 99.00
options then... I went for a higher standard as I like nice guns.)

It sold in the first week for 350. I was stunned. cheers

The Mosins are going up in value.

It all depends on where it was made. Poland, Hungary, those are the top 2 best due to their machining quality.

Right. Finland is a good catch, too. Not many of those, if memory serves.

Mine was a Russian make. I forget which factory...

well, shes dead on now at 550 yards! We were knocking over the rams yesterday and going nuts with it.

I did find that after 2 shots, that thin barrel needs a solid 10 minute cool down or else the shots start dropping lower and lower LOL.

What great fun though! Next time out we're going to try to zero it for the 750 yard buffalo and then work out to 1000 yards.

I have pics of the rifle but will have to upload them when I get home. Next time I'll bring the video camera and tri pod.

Finally took mine and had a gunsmith drill and tip it for the Rock solid mount. SOB shoots amazing with russian fmj ammo! I have the shorter 20" barrel but that sucker is printing 1/2 to 1" groups at 100 yards on a blazing hot barrel. I'll get some pictures of how mine looks later in the day. Now I want that arc angel stock!

You got a great deal.  Saw the at the last gun show here in Virginia and they were selling for short of $200.  And they are coming out of crates and in horrible shape!!!
