PostSubject: NEW BUILD COMING   Sun 23 Oct - 8:05

Finally decided to do a new SML build. Yes, as always it's Carlos' fault Twisted Evil
I decided to do another sub cal so I chose the CVA Apex. I've wanted a 35 cal forever & this is a nice way to do it!
I'll keep you posted as things develop.

Greg

I was always a fan of the .35 Remington ballistics.   A forgotten caliber but deadly on whitetails.

I'm with you Marty & with the improvements in bullets over the years range is much better. In Michigan one of the best rounds out there is the old 35 Remington. We have a lot of woods & swamps. I'm also getting a 45 cal muzzleloader barrel as well.
I'm really excited about this gun 😊

I should have mentioned your point about woods and swamps...namely a potent whitetail stopper at closer ranges.  Same here in the Northeast... lots of woodlands, mountains, thickets  and wetlands.   150 yds max. where I hunt.

You got that right Jonathan............Them smokeless guys don't realize that the smoke is the name of the game.  Cool So I can't see the deer go down but, but I know my .58 will have no problem in dropping that deer. Just wait for the smoke to clear and go tag the critter.  Wink

My Hawken stays in the gun safe. I'm long past the need or desire to make smoked. For me it's knowing that I can reach out & take that buck way past the distance I could ever do with a patch & round ball.
Plus there's the clean up factor. Not for me anymore.
I doubt that I'll ever go back farther than inlines & BH209 Shooter

BOOOOOO Exclamation Exclamation Exclamation  on you Greg.
I can't blame you or Dave and a few other guys that turned to the Dark Side. It was that nasty old DARK DANCER. He has a strong Force that changes ML'er shooters into THE IN BETWEENERS...................Those are the guys caught in the dark web of shooting rifles that are in between ml'ers and center fire rifles.
I'm about to cry. I'm loosing my friends to the Dark Side. The Dancers posse is going to get larger and larger before it gets smaller. But not me........Your going to have to pry my .58 out of my fingers FIRST.

Ray................... Wink

Never losing your friends Ray!!! Okay, well maybe we've gone over to the dark side but what an awesome place to be & we couldn't ask for a better leader!!!!

In all honesty, if guys choose to shoot sidekicks or flints then I'm good with that. Just like I choose modern & smokeless. I only get heated when someone tries to tell me that it "HAS TO BE" traditional or it's not muzzleloading 😡 I've never understood those kind of people. If they don't like it then shoot what they want but don't ever call me out in it! They don't like the results.

I've never had that happen on this s forum& I hope that it never does.

We all understand that no one that we know has done as much to bolster this sport as Carlos. It's my hope that this forum continues to cover all aspects of muzzleloading. There is a lot of history as well as new technology to come.

Greg

For me, it's always been accuracy.  With just about any tool I use for hunting, it comes down to what will do the job best. No buck or doe I've ever taken can erase the hurt of the ones I've lost.  Not because of the racks or notoriety, but wounding a deer that should have been taken cleanly.  I respect all hunters' choices from longbow and flinters to crossbows and smokeless.  It's a personal choice, none of them wrong.  But I'm not going to lie,  I love seeing the tiny groups that Greg and Carlos post!

Getting back to smokeless... Neutral
It's still not a cartridge and also shares the one-shot trait inherent to smoke guns.  Again we all have our personal challenges with the firearm we choose.

So I need to ask this question,
Even if we have other ML along with SML guns (the FAD) Even if we can shoot other powder out of our SML that YOUR smoke pole will shoot, it is just a thing that will not last?
That's what they said about the Long bow and wooden arrows!!!!
Or are you saying, if you do not shoot an old smoke pole, stay off the forum?

I seriously hope that you're not so sadly uninformed that you would believe what you just posted!!!
If you truly do I would suggest you get on a forum known as Dougs. SML's are here to stay.  There's nothing more that can be said about that fact.
To be quite honest I have to wonder WHY you would come on here and make a comment like that?  Is it because you're a traditionalist? Do you honestly believe that a patched round ball in a sidelock or a Flint is the only thing that can be considered muzzleloading?  If that's the case well, you're an (I don't say this often) idiot.

Greg
