PostSubject: CVA Moutain Stalker 50cal    August 14th 2010, 7:30 pm

I have a chance to get a nice CVA Moutain Stalker froma guy it is 50cal 1:32 twist. The gun over all is in great shape minus a bent sight. The only thing I can see is it looks like the breech plug was possibly removed at one time (wrench marks). Is this a good straight shooting side lock? Or should I stay clear as it looks like the plug was messed with. Over all the gun is nice no rust and clean stock good bore also. Best of all 50 bucks

yes its a great sidelock! 295-348gr Powerbelt with 80-100gr pyrodex RS does awesome in ours.

Thats a really good price, run a patch down the bore and look for serious rust/pitting

I will check the bore good. The breech plug marks are nothing to be alarmed at I assume?
If the bore is clean this will be my next addition to the family. Very Happy

When I get it I will post pics of it.

The bore was clean as a whistle. Bought the gun for 50 bucks. I want to replace the bent sight and I'm starting to lean toward more modern sights. Or a new set of original sights.

What sights would you guys recommend be put on the gun . I don't want to drill and tap. I want some thing that will mount right into the stock dove tale cuts.

Check out the Williams sights. Cabelas may still have them.

I ordered new sights from planet optics. And cleaned the gun up nice touched up the blueing. It has the #11 cap system should I upgrade it to something hotter or should that be fine.

#11 will be fine. I actually like to use a file and some sand paper and worth on the nipple end until my caps slide over smoothly
