For those of you who have hunted and hiked all day, you’re likely to have switched your rifle often from one shoulder to the next for a number of reasons. If you have a conventional, narrow-leather sling, switching shoulders is out of necessity from either the sling digging into your shoulder, or because the sling eventually slides off your shoulder. Sometimes it’s the little things or adjustments while hunting that can make a big difference… especially when you’ve planned a full day’s worth of walking. A modern rifle sling like the VANGUARD 320C might just be one of those adjustments to make your hunting trip a little more enjoyable.

A modern sling has a few advantages over the traditional leather strap. It distributes the weight of the rifle more evenly across your shoulder, and prevents the rifle from drifting or sliding off. A quality gun sling not only provides more comfort, but will help reduce the urge to switch carrying shoulders as often, and may also keep you from “canting” your body to keep the sling in place. The more upright your body remains while carrying your rifle the less likely you are to initiate fatigue, or experience shoulder discomfort... either during the hunt or after. While carrying a rifle all day didn’t seem to bother me when I was younger, age certainly pushes my physical limits. So anything no matter how little I can do to increase my comfort level and keep me focused on the hunt is worth doing.

Features found on the VANGUARD 320C sling include the ability to adjust its length with one hand, and a built-in loop for your thumb to keep the rifle steady and minimize movement. Here are a few pics:

I like that textured rubber shoulder part.

How flexible is the rubber?
