PostSubject: TC Renegade Project   January 19th 2012, 4:15 pm

Got the stock from forum member Ray "Jeepman" as he no longer used it due to the barrel rusting badly during storage. I purchased a .50cal barrel for it last week for $65 and it fit the bill nicely.

Here it is,
[img]

i currently have stripped the stock, reshaped it a good deal to remove the square look it had and now and applying 20 coats of Truoil before i knock it down to a satin finish.

The wood is absolutely AMAZING once i got it sanded down and smoothed out. I did a great deal of steaming to remove dents and scratches and it made for a beautiful stock in the end.

Just wet the stock with water to show the wood grain i found under the ugly finish that was on it LOL.

Hey now,It was a hunting rifle, that happened to take a fair share of deer and elk. remember it wasn't always that dark, applying linseed to it over many years continued to darken it. that kit was bought in 1989. it's almost as old as you :Bat

Ray, I think this one will look REALLY good with the dark plum brown im putting on the steel. I got the stocking hanging now with a beautiful gloss finish on it. Give it till morning and add another coat of truoil.

When the stocks are somewhere in the middle between dark and light is when the brown/plum barrels really stand out and look outstanding.

put the renegade back together just now. Im going to give it till tomorrow to set up before i wet sand it.

The wedge key plates i will have to spend some time polishing as ive browned them twice and end up with old timey looking pattern, real rough in other words. Looks great with the brown on it though!

IMHO, Old timey as you put it, fits right in with the brown/plum.. that color looks well (old world)?

Got half of the barrel browned and i must say.... TC really screwed up by NOT browning the barrel and trim! It really makes them look very sharp. Should have the barrel finished up later tonight and then its just finishing the stock with truoil and then dull it down to satin.

Gotta get some more BC plum brown at the store when i go to town to finish up the barrel and tang. Applied one satin finish on the rifle then buffed it with 0000 steel wool, i want to apply a few more satin coats before i call it good. Got the rifle together for now until i can get into town for some supplies.

Got some browning solution today and the barrel and tang is all finished. I am taking an extra step and antiquing the barrel with old coffee grounds just to see how it comes out. It will take a few days though.

Got the barrel finished a couple hours ago and just mounted it, the brown looks amazing! Tried an experiment to antique a barrel on tv and it didnt pan out the way i thought it would, ended up rebrowning the entire barrel.

Got the Renegade loaded and ready for 50 yards tomorrow. Just starting off with an easy load of 80gr Pyrodex RS and the 250gr Powerbelt Aerolite.
