Been using gun grease and Militec 1 on my guns for many years.   Never had a gun rust in storage or the field.  Never saw my guns for one two year + stretch while working overseas.

The vast majority of rusty guns i see got that way through neglect and because they were stored in gun cases.  Some folks refuse to wake up and realize that prolonged storage in cases may ruin their guns.  Recently a friend brought me two guns to "cleanup".   His Remington model 788 and high grade Remington 1100 shotgun were ruined from being stored in gun cases.  Declined because i hate to deal with rusty guns.

There are numerous high quality gun oils out there. Pick one and use it.

No it wasn't. Ballistol was invented by the Germans to take care of the guns in WW1.
