PostSubject: Cva Apex .45cal   Wed 15 Jan - 9:32

Just bought my first muzzleloader the Cva apex .45cal, I've only shot 195 grain powerbelts with 2 777 pellets, 777 primers.  Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

What are you going to hunt with it?

110 grains of BH209, Barnes 195 expander, Harvester light blue sabots or the same load but with Hornady 200 grain SST's. For cheap practice bullets you can use the Hornady 200 grain XTP's.

I have a 50 cal APEX & just got a 45 cal barrel from Carlos. I bore sighted it, shot 2 rounds at 25 yard, made one adjustment & put 3 in the bull at 100. That was using the Hornady SST200, a Harvester smooth blue sabot, & 110 grains of BH209. I'm gonna order some MZ 195's from Carlos & try them next. You can buy both of these bullets, the sabots, & the powder from him, cheaper than anyone else & get the very best in service.

I really wanted to shoot the 200 grain Bloodline in this gun, but Knight wants $25.99 per box plus $16.00 to ship one box so until they get that fixed I won't be using them. Haven't been able to find another vendor for that bullet either Sad

In any case the Barnes & the SST 200 are both much better bullets than the Powerbelts. If you should switch to BH209 you will have to modify your breech plug for proper ignition. Or you can send it to Frontier Gander (Jon) on this forum for a vent liner modification.

I thought that the Bloodline bullets were made of brass by Lehigh. I just checked the www.http://lehighbullets.com web-site and it shows that muzzleloader bullets are not available.

Bloodline bullets are made of brass b y Lehigh but Lehigh does not sell them. They are made for Knight.

You guys are right. Lehigh is under contract to provide the Bloodline bullets to Knight only. I do shoot a Lehigh .458/305 that I get from Lehigh in my Mountaineer because they sell it as a 45-70 rifle bullet & not a M/L bullet. Knight says they will have their shipping problem fixed by next hunting season. They are blaming UPS & I have no idea why it would take that long. Lehigh ships Fed Ex for $5.00
