PostSubject: A thumbs up for Goex!   May 11th 2014, 2:34 pm

Yesterday I had a couple rifles on the range, the 50cal hawken and 58cal hawken. I had been shooting a target i had to send in for scoring and so i started with the 50cal but things were not going well. Switching over to the 58 i did my 5 shots at the target, 48 out of 50 possible points. Reloaded and took my Bubba for his hike. With a nice big 4 point mule deer shed in hand, we hiked back home and I started to clean my guns. Started with the 58 as it always takes the longest to clean because I go over it very closely.

Removed nipple, set the breech soak for a few minutes, start pumping water and bam... No water getting through anywhere. DOH! I forgot that it was still loaded. Tried a ball puller without any luck ( kept stripping out) went and got a couple q tips, blew water out of the bolster, dried the bolster with the q tips and dribbled 9 grains 4f goex in the bolster, reinstalled nipple, took it outside, capped, BAM! That sucker fired off instantly and actually hit my target!

That just goes to show you how forgiving black powder it. Pyrodex, T7, American pioneer would have basically melted away into watery dust.

Why did you load it, and not shoot it? You were on the range.

You were done shooting the target. Why did you reload?  scratch
