Very Happy

I went out today and made a lot of smoke Very Happy  Ski was blue with no wind. For awhile there the heat and humidity brought back some memories and to top it off the friggin' skeets were like dive bombers. Other then that it was a great day to be out shooting.
Here's a few pics

I was really happy with today's shooting. The first target, black bull @ 25 yards, are 3 shots cutting into each other at 2/3 o'clock. The next pic I moved the sight a little to the left (counter clock wise Jonathan) and they all hit the orange above the circle. 4 shots there at 50 yards and the next one is from the 100 yard bench. 1st 3 shots were pretty good up and down but I have to tighten that group up some or cut my max shot down to 70 or 80 yards. The 2 shots at the top right was with a hot barrel. That's when I decided to stop.
I was using 70 grains of 2F Goex with the Remington Primer, .570 Hornady ball and .015 dry patch that I worked in a good amount to mink oil. In the past I stated that I didn't think mink oil patches were going to work. Maybe I didn't work in enough mink oil in the patch because today was different. With the pre-lubed patches I was only getting off 2 shots before I had to swab. Today with nice amounts of mink oil on the patch I was able to get 5/6 shots before I swabbed.
Last but not least, there's ROSIE. She's a hell of a side lock..........She's a looker and a shooter :rtup

A 7" string is borderline for a broadside kill shot but by experimenting with different loads you can probably shrink that in half. Plus your barrel probably isn't broke in yet.

You'll be doing much better by the time hunting season rolls around. Keep the smoke billowing. Twisted Evil

Let me know the day drummy and I'll meet you up in Bristol and we'll have a good time either shootin' or just shootin' the shit headslap

Say guys, I'm just gassed that I can still see that target at 100 yards with open sights at my age cheers I'm hoping to round it off at around 75 yards or so.
Thanks for all the replies and encouragement and keep making smoke.

According to Goex that load has a MV of only 1050fps.

Kind of weak Ray.

Pete,
Not done with finding a good load for hunting yet. Thought I would start the ball rolling with 70 grains. (NO PUN INTENDED). I've read replies from members that stated 70 grains was good enough for deer so I started there. Another reason was, at 50 grains there was no recoil. At 70 there is some so I'm going to increase a little at a time because this side lock has no recoil pad like the in lines. Yesterday I felt the difference with just a t-shirt on. headslap

Your hunts are in the winter Ray. You'll have more clothing on. Plus, you can always put a little extra padding on your shoulder.

I know what you mean about the curved metal butt plate. It's what I didn't like about the GPR, but it only bothered me on the bench. Something I don't do much. I prefer to shoot offhand the majority of the time.

I know you shoot from a blind, and that's like bench shooting. You need to use some padding.

Can always swap the stock for something like a Deerstalker's with a pad on ....

Better to pad the shoulder than to ruin the gun.
