I'm interested in y'all's thoughts about the Lyman GPR Kit in .54 with a 1 in 60" twist? I've searched the forum and seen some threads on them. Great looking rifle. Have found the kits for $380 and it has the wheels turning.

Also, how much inletting is there normally? Thanks!

If you search on Youtube there's a series of videos from a guy who built one. I've heard some guys say it's easy, and others who had a hard time. Not sure if that means the kits are inconsistent in quality control, or it's the abilities of the builders.

The gun itself is a good shooting gun once the barrel is broken in. (about 100 shots) It's also fairly close to the original Hawken. You can get it even closer when you build it by shaping the stock.

Not any inletting to be done in the kits ive put together. There is quite a bit of wood to shave off with a number of wood files by the lock plates and the butt plate, but its not a bad kit to put together, I really enjoy them.

It seems to me that I've seen used factory assembled GPRs for less than $380. If you are just after the gun, check around. If you want to build a kit, then go for it.

If this is against the rules, go ahead and delete this post.

Try http://www.muzzleloadingforum.com/pp-classifieds/index.php

I watch this classified section everyday for bargains, and the Lyman GPR shows up frequently.

Recently, I sold a Lyman flint GPR for $450 and a mint percussion GPR for $400.

I have no problem if deleted, if this reference is against Forum Rules, since its in competition with this forum.
