PostSubject: What is Required to Install a 45 cal Barrel on a 50 cal CVA Accura V2   March 27th 2015, 12:57 pm

To expand on the subject line, I have a 50 cal Accura V2 that I bought new last Nov. '14. I want to convert it to a 45 cal. I ordered the barrel this morning and when I placed the order, CVA said it may require a gunsmith.

What is required in the way of fitting a barrel to the action? I'm envisioning the barrel assy needing to be milled to get the proper fit of the breech plug to the receiver. Is that right?

Better yet, what are the chances of it fitting properly as received?

I'm hoping I can just use a shim kit.

Your thoughts?

Thanks,
Kahuner

Sometimes the welds on the lock up lug need slight milling to fit the receiver properly. I use a dremel tool and do the work.

That's it? No worries about the fit of the barrel assembly/ breech plug to the receiver?

Thanks for your response! Let me know if there's anything else.

There may be more but for the price, Its worth the trouble finding out what may have to be done. I can't see anything else needing special fitting to be honest with you.

Have you ever done what I'm inquiring about, switching barrels? If so how many?

I'm really hoping you're right!

Ive only done a couple, an optima and an apex. They both just needed a  little weld trimming at the front of the lug where it was hitting on the hinge pin.

I have a CVA APEX with several barrels and have no problems, sort of, I have found that the forearm has a lot of flex in it so I bedded the forearm to my 7mm-08 barrel. As long as you use a relief agent on the contact area where the forearm screw and piller and the barrel meet it will all come apart.
