PostSubject: Savage 220F Shotgun   February 12th 2016, 10:17 am

Just wanted to show my other pride and joy.  Aside from getting used to the new CVA Accura MR muzzleloader I also finished a project that I had with a new Savage 220F shotgun.  I've been hunting with a Remington 870 12 slug gun for the past several years but wanted something different.  I hunt in shotgun only areas but I really like bolt action rifles and hate shooting a 12ga so decided that the Savage 220F, having a great reputation for its accuracy and being a bolt action 20ga, was a great option.  I got the rifle in camo/black and immediately felt like the bolt was too rough and the stock felt too hollow and threw the rifle off balance.  I ended up having the bolt semi-polished and fluted, it feels like its on bearings and rivals the smooth action FN action stock on a 1960's rifle that I have (they don't make em like this anymore!) and I had it fluted just because I like the look and it breaks up the finish.  For the stock I had a custom McMillan made, took almost 6 months to get but it is custom made for this rifle and words can't explain what it does for balance, comfort, and recoil - it's absolutely amazing.  I then topped it off with the same scope I'm using on my Accura MR, a Vortex Viper HS2.5-10X44 held by a DNZ mount.  That's it in a nutshell - this isn't your every day Savage 220F but I'm very happy with the way it turned out...

Nice looking slug gun, what will you be feeding it?  I haven't had a 220 but my Ultra Slug Hunter really liked the Federal Trophy Coppers. cant wait to see your range report.

2 3/4" Accutips - seems to like them so far (my 870 12ga likes them too)  heard great things about Trophy Coppers too.

That looks great!!! Nicest one I've seen. Mine had a huge preference for the 3" Accutips.

I guess you can make a silk purse out of a sow's ear .. if your name is McMillan. :rtup

I literally couldn't find anyone who could or would make one for this rifle - it's the only "hunter" style they've done for it (so I'm told), I've seen a few on the net done in a M40 tactical stock.  I thought Boyds but just wasn't quite confident in them...
