PostSubject: Shootin in the AM   February 19th 2016, 8:56 pm

Got back from Denver today. Got 2 shots in the ass dimples on my left side so I have to take it easy tomorrow. Just running some shoot out through the hawken and mountain pistol to clean them up a little more. I can't do any real walking so 100 yards is out of the question for a few days. Man, they did my left si joint and the first one had me swearing on the table and bug eyed, it hurt so bad. My left one was the worst of the bunch, but mother! I have never felt that kind of pain before. Not fun!

Hopefully tomorrow will lighten my mood.

It will.

I am going Sunday BPing. Bringing a co-worker, wife, and a friend.

I never had my back get cortisone shots but the ones in my shoulders and knee didn't really hurt.
They told me it would hurt each time but it didn't. They also said I'd feel much better the next day.

Here's hoping it works. The best thing to help out your back is to strengthen your stomach muscles so they help take the load. I can see it now, "6-pack Jonathan."

I sympathize with anyone having back issues because it affects everything you do... and can be a depressing time.  You are still very young FG, and the body is an incredible healing machine. Just look at how athletes heal from nasty injuries through rehab.  In my 40's I was once house-bound for weeks with a back injury...painful to walk  and could not sit for long. At 60 I'm fortunate to say I recovered from that injury but it doesn't come free without management.  For me weekly core strengthening and yoga was/is the key to recovery and maintenance.  Bike riding is also a great exercise for the back.

Take it easy FG and hope you're feeling better soon!

I hope those shots take care of the pain!
Good idea about the ab workouts. Just don't do straight legged situps. They will hurt your back even more.
I am not so much working on a six pack but on a 3 roll. Very Happy
Ron

Bingo!!!

Trashed my back soon after retiring from the Army.  The old VA doctor told me to do situps.  Was soon doing 200 situps per day, later increased to 500.  The back pains went away.  Later got on a rowing machine and i still do that.

Hell if a rowing machine works, I'll have that as soon as the lakes melt and I get my canoe out there!!

Thanks guys, appreciate the support. Its not fun with the leg pain I was going through. The pain in my legs is gone for now, but man my ass hurts from that shot!

Must be nice to have real flowing water in the form of mountain rivers and streams.

Get well soon, Jon.

Only those that have/had severe back pain know how miserable it can be. So I at least have an idea of your pain and suffering. I never had leg pain so the doctors thought I was faking to get comp and out of working. I told them I liked my work and wanted fixed! After a couple facet injections the pain was located and two vertebra fused and I was fine for a few years.
Sit ups made me worse and the next doc said I should never have done them. Too many opinions on back problems.

Hang in there Jonathan, sounds like you may be on the right track now to be pain free.

Had the leg pain and in my case it was a ruptured disk and the knife was the ONLY answer. Don't know what caused it, it just happened. But I will say this, after the operation I was a new person. This happened when I was 28. Never have had a minutes trouble since (with my back) and that was 40 years ago.

Other stuff is messing up but the back is great. Very Happy

Good luck!

well that makes me feel better knowing im not the only young guy that may have to go under the knife lol. All the doctors tell me that i am to young to be feeling this pain and to be honest, I dont think they really even believe the pain that i feel or how intense it can be.

I can certainly relate to dealing with pain.  Not sure exactly where yours is, but if it is joint related I have had great results taking chondroitin.  I know others with the same results.  As others have noted above, back pain can be greatly relieved with strong abs.

Best to you!

A balanced level of ab and lower back strength is very important when managing back problems. Many of us older fellows came up during the time when situps were considered the exercise of choice for building abdominal strength. This is no longer the case. So many back injuries could be traced to doing situps that Professional trainers have pretty much abandoned them. Most people use hip muscles while doing situps and situp put enormous stress on your discs.

First, straight legged situps were stopped as they caused back injuries and really didn't focus efforts on the abs. Then, bent legged situps gave way to crunches where you come up only a short distance from the floor.

My son was a strength coach a few years back and trained some high school football teams. He still is current in the sports science and medicine literature. The current trend is to doing core strengthening exercises rather than just focusing on the abs.

Core strength sites on the net can be quite helpful. For an intro, try http://www.webmd.com/back-pain/features/relieve-back-pain-with-core-strength-training.

I agree with all the stomach/back stuff above.

Getting back to shooting this morning, I introduced two wonderful women
to black powder and they really seemed to love it!

Belle (19) and Tan (My age) were deadly at the top and then wavered. Both
out shot me with the distractions. Tan was really good. She was trained in Mao's
China before becoming an American citizen. Her father shot a BP fowler.

We shot a Hatfiled .50 flintlock (me), a CVA .50 Hawkins (Belle) percussion, and
a Traditions .50 flintlock (Tan). Be (my wife) caught a bug and was not present.

My new Rice range rod broke off at the threads from a jag. I now need to drill it.

My new range box was a huge success and an envy. Thanks for al the help getting that!

We really had a great time at the range today!cheers

I'd have a good time at the range too if I could observe a 19 yr. old honey shooting. Twisted Evil

I thought THEY were looking at ME. Twisted Evil
Black powder makes you sexy!

I took no pics because I was too busy hosting and keeping things safe.
Tan may have some. I can try to find out.

There was another 23 year-old there for her third visit. Ladies Day on April 2nd.
It is nice having the ladies around.

I am too busy chanting, 'powder, patch, ball' to notice.
Cause you are right. I would get shot!

But, I am still black powder sexy. We could do a calendar. jocolor

careful when handling your wooden ramrod. You might break it as you look up only to see one of them licking a dry patch, awaiting for your rammer to slide it home.

Most females can shoot better than most males. I think the reason is they are willing to listen and learn correctly because they don't already 'know it all' like most men. Laughing
