Otis cleaning cable being used, patch too big, stuck in barrel, any easy way to get it out. I thought about soaking in lubricating oil overnight.

Thoughts?

Jerry

If just the patch is stuck, disassemble rifle and push the patch into the breech area with a cleaning rod.

I am unfamiliar with the Otis cleaning cable. If it is stuck too, you have to use your ingenuity, I suppose.

Put a couple of hungry moths down the barrel.  In a day or two the patch will be gone!   cheers

I looked at a photo of that Otis cable. It looks like it has a female fitting at each end. If one end is accessible, place the largest brass fitting (for patches) in the free end and bind it in a vice. Just pull the barrel assembly in a straight line from where it's inserted into the vice. It almost has to come out that way ... unless the cable is doubled up inside. Dunno

Patocazador, your advice worked. I was cleaning 50 cal ML and the .223 was next in line, forgot to change out the patch box and put a .50 cal patch in the .223 barrel. LOL, that doesn't work. Pam thanks you Patocazador, it was her AR15.

As for Old Smoke, we placed 4 moths into the barrel, they ate all of the lands and grooves out of the barrel, now Pam has a smooth bore .223, might make a good turkey carbine. We are headed out on a 3 day turkey hunt, we will let Old Smoke know how the "carbine .223 smooth barrel" works on Alabama long beards

Wow!  I'll patent that.  I can turn any rifle into a shotgun!

Not sure why anybody would want to,

I'm glad you got it out OK. I've done that to my guns at least a half a dozen times. The hardest one to get out is too big a patch in my .45 flintlock with a 42" barrel. Fortunately, I pinned both ends of the ramrod and insert it into the vice with a leather piece gripping it. So far, it has come out every time.
