Description :

Howdy folks. Two Feathers here again with a project that I just finished up. A Bowie knife, The price is $250.00 + $25.00 s&h with insurance.
I patterned this knife off of one I found in a museum while on vacation in Lancaster, Pa. Supposedly that knife was from around the 1830’s. My knife is 14” overall length. It has a 9-1/4” long cutting edge, by 1-3/4” wide. It’s 3/16” thick 1080 high carbon steel. While not as hard as the 1095 that I normally use, it makes a great knife. 1080 steel is a bit softer and more flexible. It’s also more easily sharpened. The handle is from an Elk antler shed. I cast a Pewter butt cap on it. The antler handle is held on with (2) 1/8” Iron pins and is stained with a custom blend of dyes to bring out the natural beauty of the antler since it had laid in the woods and gotten sun bleached. There is an oval steel cross guard. The knife has a slight curve in the handle that goes toward the Right. It has a very natural feel for a Right hander. I would call this a “Right handed knife.”
The sheath is crafted of dark Brown 5 oz. Calf leather, and is made up of 4 layers of leather. The front piece has 3 Diamond shaped holes cut into it, with a Red suede backing. Behind the suede there is another full sized piece of Calf hide as a cover to keep the suede protected from the blade. There is a welt all along both the spine, and the cutting edges of the sheath. This welt protects the stitches from the cutting edge. There is a folded belt loop stitched into the rear of the sheath; that will accept a 2-1/4” wide belt. All three front layers of calf hide and suede are bound together at the top opening for added security, then all are stitched together with natural color artificial sinew in an “X” pattern for period correctness. Like the one I saw, I added some aged nickel spots to the front.
This Bowie knife would make an excellent addition to your Mountain Man wardrobe for any upcoming event.
