PostSubject: First Cleaning of a New Accura   May 10th 2016, 9:33 am

Hi,

I picked up an Accura V2 from Carlos last week and cleaned it last night. I was surprised at the amount of brown residue showing on my towels after repeated wiping and cleaning of the outside of the gun. Is this just normal packing grease/protectant left on the nitride-finished surface?

Some more dumb questions:

When you guys clean the ML do you run the ramrod starting in the open breech or the muzzle?

How often do you clean the small orifice in the breechplug after shooting? I know you should run the drill bit every so often due to fouling but I haven't seen anything about the other end of the breechplug other than that some people use a welding torch tip cleaner.

I really look forward to shooting this guy over the weekend now that a scope is mounted.

Yes, that residue with the packing grease they use to protect the gun while in storage.

Buy a can of birchwood casey gun scrubber, remove the stock and forearm, barrel, then give the frame a good spray down inside and out. Relube the internals with a light oil that dries over time ( Barricade works excellent)

I always run the cleaning rod from the back end to the front. It keeps fouling from being pushed into the breech plug threads.

Breech plug flash channel cleaned every 10 shots or so. Its really key to keep that thing clean so it is consistent. Flash hole, the tiniest section, I've hardly ever touched, it doesn't seem to get built up like the flash channel.

Thanks a bunch. I don't know how I missed that thread but I have noticed some of your videos on other forums no long link correctly. Just an FYI - I appreciate the help and site.

Any other oils recommended besides Barricade? I may not be able to find it.

You can buy Barricade on line at Amazon or many gun suppliers, too.
I find it easier than waiting to find a brick and mortar store with the stock
I need.

I also will buy an extra can when I find a brick and mortar source just
to keep them in business.
