PostSubject: Lessons on Making Sentimental Birthday Cards for Wife   May 24th 2016, 9:54 am

It was my wife's birthday just the other day. I don't care to buy or download cards. I can write that type of doggerel poetry just as well as those hired writer's can. And when it comes from me, it is more obviously heart-felt and sincere. So, I drafted a poem for my dear, lovely wife of almost 46 years.
Perhaps it can serve as an example for my smoke pole colleagues:

Happy 68th
In your time we’ve come so far,
From wood wheeled wagons
To the stylish car.

From chasing your dinner
With spear and knives,
Now Pizza Hut
Call and it arrives.

Back then you carved
Notes in a rock
And now you store
Them as a DOC.

The changes they
Have been so great,
You’ve seen them all,
Let’s celebrate!

I will report on the response I get, later, if I survive.

I learned a long time ago to not mention a woman's age.

Great Poem Ron!!  I agree with Pete about mentioning your wife's age...My recommendation is Happy "39" again.  (Jack Benny always got away with it.)  Very Happy

My wife is hoping to see 65 quickly before her Blue Cross premiums break us. O'CrummyCare caused all the companies' premiums to skyrocket. She pays over $1000/month.

I have never nono mentioned my wife's age to anyone other than my wife in speaking.  Luckily I got that great advice early-on and didn't have to experience Doh  the consequences of doing otherwise  Laughing

Your approach RonC to being frugal is note-worthy.  Retail Cards on the rack are clearly over-priced and there are many, many other ways to state your intentionns.  A couple I know have exchanged the same store bought card for years.  They simply resign it.

She'll just think he's too cheap to buy a card.

Good luck when you want a new gun Ron.

I've been writing these for birthdays and anniversaries for decades. My worry is greater than just for guns.
As my colleague said: One day I will wake up with chest pains, and it won't be a heart attack. It will be a steak knife sticking between the ribs. Shocked

They may only be a buck, but where can you get sentiments like this:

It’s pretty cool that we’ve been together for however long it is that we’ve been together.
Together for forty-three years
It is much too hard to switch gears,
No trophy wife for me,
I’d rather stay solvent than happy.

Thank you for these years of wedded bliss
My eyes are tearing up to think of this
They are the best ten years I’ve ever had
And ten years out of 43 isn’t bad.

She knows I only like to leer
When I see a peachy rear
She doesn’t mind, well not too much
Because I look but never touch

Communication is critical. And my favorite communication from you:
I Know That You Believe That You
Think that you Understood What
You Think I Said, But I Am Not Sure
You Realize That What You think you
Heard Is Not What I Meant.

Talk about sentiment - Doesn't it just bring a tear to your eye? Crying or Very sad

Ron

Those are ones that were given to her in the past.

You must make a ton of money. That's the one thing a lot of women care the most about. Twisted Evil

If only, Bob!
I'm afraid I chose a career that precludes making the big $$$$.
My wife controls the budget since I am totally incompetent in and bored with managing money. As long as I have some in my pocket for hobbies, holiday and birthday presents, then I am content.
And, I can't pick a lottery number worth a darn.
Then again, with a comfortable house, some cars, a kid through college and an acceptable retirement situation, I can't complain.

We went from birthdays to bragging.

Must be a hunting forum.

Gals standing in front of a mirror and comments...."I look fat! What do you think honey" as she comments to her husband.

He replies..."Your vision is perfect!"

Mentioning age....isn't the worst thing that can be stated!!
