I like hearing about you making it through the ordeal but the stuff you went through has me nervous. I go Thursday for a cardiac catheterization and I don't like hearing about all the bad stuff.

Get up and around soon. Hunting season isn't far off.

Hey! RonC! I knew they couldn't keep you down. You were just making certain
no one was bored over there! Keep it low and slow and you will be up and around
in no time. Great to hear from you!

Bob, RonC went in for an over haul. Yours will go smooth. I am certain you are too
ornery to let some Doc mess with you. (Grins mischievously) Care to bet me that
you will be fine? I got 20 bucks that says you will be great! Twisted Evil

Besides, you drew permits. God would not do that to you. scratch

1) How do I collect if you're wrong? Suspect

2) I just got the muzzleload results and I drew a permit for a spot that only issues 5 of them.  Very Happy   Together my granddaughter and I drew 9 out 12 for all permits. The only ones I got skunked for were archery permits. She got skunked on a youth hunt.

When you turn 65, you can hunt about 1/3 of the areas without a permit. It's the only advantage I've found for being old.

Well, while that would be very tragic and ain't happening? That would not be my problem. Laughing
That is all the more reason it is a good bet!

But, God has punished me for my wicked thoughts already.
I looked at my Florida permit drawings...

I got skunked completely for any: 0 permits for me. That's right. 0. ZERO. NADA.
Muzzleloader lottery struck out, too. My opinion about this is not very sociable at
the moment...

I guess RonC will have to get out of hospital and take me to Africa before
I can hunt legally. Unless I buy a swamp boat. I might. Don't want to. I might.

The rest of the story:

I had a "massive inflammatory response" to the surgery. It took several days in intensive care to stabilize the heart and I was using an external pacemaker and a battery of medication. The pacemaker was removed on Thursday as my own heart took over the process. I was weak and wasted and could not get out of bed without assistance.
Presently, I am in a rehab facility as they work to reduce my water retention. I can't believe I am so bloated and distended. Once the excess fluid is purged, I can increase the cardiac rehab activity and go home by the middle of next week. I should be able to shoot in 10-12 weeks.
Each day is better than the last.
Ron

I'm glad you made it through. I spent 15 days in the hospital once and it drove me nuts. When I got home and started petting my dog, I broke down crying for about an hour. That crap gets to you after a while.

"And someone yelled out, there's a light above, and 20 men scrambled from a would-be grave ......."     I always have this song lyric going through my brain when I'm dealing with a lot of crap. It seems to help.

RonC, buddy, I am sending every good thought and prayer I have your way.
You will be fine, buddy.

No worries! Just be patient and heal. We are there with you, mate!

And, everything Bob said.

'Big John...' I get it... totally.

Good news.
Heart surgeon and cardiologist ran me through a battery of tests. All came out fine! Healing is progressing well. Cardiac rehab helping to build stamina and increasing upper body mobility.

I now can perform my daily activities myself, thank goodness! I felt helpless as an infant when a nurses assistant had to bathe me. That I can do myself, now.

I lost 27 pounds and a large quantity of muscle mass. That will take time to recover. I can walk for 15 - 20 minutes limited by the earlier knee surgery and not my heart. Today, I drove for the first time in a long time. Driving is important because now I can take my brother, who is visiting, to a local gun shop. No big gun purchases for now, but I will pick up a few 100 count percussion caps containers.

There are a few residual issues, but I can almost ignore them given how far I have progressed. Like James Brown sang: "AH feeeel good, da,da,da,da,da,da! I knew that I would, now." Most of you should know of James Brown. I know because my parents told me about him. Twisted Evil Laughing

Good news Ron.............amazing what  they can do to keep us alive and moving. My left shoulder replacement is coming along nicely and I have no plans before December to get the right one done......so by God's grace I'll fill a tag or two this fall!...will the doc let you shoot?

Be Blessed!

"I lost 27 pounds and a large quantity of muscle mass. That will take time to recover."

I spent half a month in the hospital followed (a month or so afterwards) by another week there. This was in 2006. The muscle mass in my legs (thighs and calves) never returned to what they were. I had lost over 25 lbs. while hospitalized and they only allowed me to have limited exercise. I would sneak out of my bed at 3:00 am and walk all the halls for an hour and a half. When they caught me, they were real pissed. I don't really know why.

The docs said that 'old farts' don't recover it to be "good as new".  I didn't, however, I hope you do.

It will take more time based on my shoulder and hip surgery.

Give it at least a year and with continued daily walking you will be in good shape for the shape you are in. lol!

Glad you are doing well.

Thank you, Gentlemen!
I fully intend to get close to where I was. Realistically, I likely won't be at 70 what I was as a boy at 67.
It should be a few weeks before I can start any strength exercises, and I may even have to wait until September. And it is acceptable that I never will return to my svelte figure (the one I had in high school) Very Happy .
I will work hard, regardless.
Now, back to the Barco-lounger and my bon-bons.
Ron

Al, the Avatar is a photo from just before the surgeries. I am now reduced in size. In the photo, I was about 247 lbs. Now, I am 219.
