In the past when I wanted true oil pressure I used an industrial grade oil pressure gauge and a short 1/8" pipe nipple to replace sending unit. Or a short nipple in an 1/8" TEE to use both.

Correction: In my earlier post it should have been 5-40, not 15-40.

Yep, Ford did some slick tricks.  The first big block came out as 332 cubic inches in 1958.  Then it went to 352 and 390 cubic inches, etc.   If you rapped hard on the engine the oil pump rod would sometimes rise up into the distributor shaft far enough to fall out of the oil pump. 

Ford "fixed" that problem by putting a washer type collar on the oil pump rod so it could not rise up into the shaft.  Problem was that the assembly experts at the Ford factory sometimes installed the rod upside down:  Back to the original problem.
