Ok I'm putting a Scope on a Old 20Ga. Pump to use with Slugs on Deer.

I'm thinking I have killed Deer over 100 yards using this and that is what I'm thinking of setting my Scope for 100 yards.

Am I right? 50 Yards seems close. I'm going to be hunting on the ground.

If it's a rifled slug barrel, 100 yds. would be about right although I'd probably go more for 75-80 myself due to our thick growth here.

If it's a smooth barrel with Foster slugs, I'd stick to 50 yards. They will kill at 100 just maybe not hit the intended target. I had an IC 26" barrel for my 12 ga. 870 that could hit a milk jug @ 100yds. almost every shot with a W/W 1 oz. slug. It was a great barrel for slugs. However, no other shotgun that I had would do it. It just depends on the barrel and the slugs used.

So....having never hunted with a center fire shotgun, from what your saying Bob...not that much different than a muzzleloading version????

It depends on how much drop you're getting at 100yds. You don't want it shooting too high at shorter distances.

"haven't had to try and stop someone trying to knock down my door"

That's funny because about 3 weeks ago my wife and I were watching a video where the crazy gang members were sneaking in to storm a motel full of cops on stake out. I looked out the window and saw someone outside the door. We live 100 yds. off the road and our gate was locked. I opened the door before he got to it with a 9mm in my hand. It was a sheriff's deputy investigating a 911 hang-up. He put his palms forward before I lowered the gun. I lowered the gun and asked him if he was wearing his vest. He answered, "Thankfully, YES!"

Then he explained the situation but I told him he shouldn't be sneaking up to somebody's house if he couldn't do it better than that.

He agreed.

Whew!!!! affraid that was close. Here in Idaho, don't think the sheriff's deputy that might make it out to our house would come unannounced.........we love our cops and I think they know most of us are fairly heavily armed....and I don't think the cops would try and break our door down, but we are getting a good number of bad guys crawling over the boarder of Washington, many are gang bangers from southern California.

.....more worried about the Zombie apocalypse. They did recent drills here with all the first responders in the event a major quake hits the left coast. It is estimated that there would be in the neighborhood of 10 million refugees........Zombie apocalypse! :laughing5
