PostSubject: After a Month's Delay I finally Go for My Heart Catheterization Tomorrow   July 25th 2016, 2:17 pm

After I dumped the last guy, I got a cardiologist that I like a lot better and has good reviews (kinda like a gun). He was the only one in 3 counties that everyone had good experiences with. So tomorrow at 5:45 am I go for a right & left catheterization. They may keep me overnight if they decide I need stents.

Too much sausage and pulled pork over the years, I guess. Boudin is my favorite followed closely by Italian sausage and fried catfish with cheese grits. (I'm getting hungry writing this post.)

Ron is still the winner in the "show me your scars" contest regardless of my outcome.

Too much hunting in tree stands too. Exercise more. Go for a long hike everyday. Walk fast enough to get your heart rate up.

Blessing to you Bob and prayers for a successful procedure.........there's good evidence it's the grits and breading on the catfish....but what Pete said too!

My wife works in a Doc's office and those who come in for advice regarding cholesterol are finding their "bad" numbers drop when they eliminate the carbs from their diets....sorta opposite of what you think.......weight loss is also a benefit.

I know you will come out aces.
That $20.00 bet is still good if you want.

Will they do the catherization through a blood vessel in the arm or the standard location in the groin area?
The catherization doesn't cause a lot of pain, but you can expect some bruising afterwards, particularly if it is done in the groin.
Best wishes,
Ron

They said that the wrist was now the standard for the left heart but that the right heart required the groin so both will be done through the groin in order not to have two separate sites.
I also have to have an infusion first with a clotting agent since I have deficiency of factor VII and Von Willebrandt's factor.

Years ago, I tried the low fat approach and nothing changed in my blood tests. I went low-carb and my cholesterol dropped 60 points and my triglycerides went from 330 to 130, an astounding change.

If you like, please let us know how the tests come out.

Did the cath but I have to have ~ 4 bypasses so they're not letting me out until surgery and 7-14 days follow up. Supposed to be done yesterday but I reacted to the meds. Now it's Monday. I'll be in the Cardio unit for at least 9-15 more days after the surgery.

I'll try to check in periodically.

Worst thing is no hunting until Nov-Dec.

I hate to read that you have to go through this, but glad that they have caught the blockage before the potentially bad consequences.
If you need to talk to someone, please feel free to contact me at my private email.

Bob
Sorry to hear of the results. It seems today though that bypasses are almost common. Like Ron says at least they found it before something severe happened. Keep us posted when you can and I wish you the best thru the procedure and the recovery. Al

Sorry to hear about this, but glad they caught it. Seems like you are due for
for a little tune up. You will feel a lot better after everything is done and settled.
We would like to keep you around for a while longer.

I will keep you in my prayers. scratch

PS. The young man you helped went to the range with me and his father.
That is a very nice little rifle you found for him and he is very happy. His
face lit up like a Christmas tree after his first shot with it.

He and his Dad are both coming back out to our range match in August.

Well, I had the bypasses Monday am and came out just fine. Absolutely no pain the first day and they moved me out the next day. 2nd day was painful on the left underarm area but that's doing better now. Started walking this am and they pulled the chest drainage tubes and Foley catheter.

The whole procedure, even with the complications of drug allergies, was 70% easier than I anticipated. Nothing that you want to do electively, but nothing to be afraid of either.

The most tiring part is dealing with all the visitors. I had 8 in here yesterday plus 5 others today. It's hard to pee in a jug with a crowd around. Embarassed

I hope you early season hunters have a lot of success. Ill be drooling over your trophies.

Fantastic news!..................peeing a bottle is a pain even when you're alone! Will you be able to hunt this season?

Be patient and heal up Bob! Next year, you'll feel like a young man again once this is all fixed and healed up!

Visitors I can certainly see being a pain in the butt when all you want to do is rest and pee in a jug LOL. Then again, whip it out and pee in the jug with a roomful, maybe they'll get the message LOL.

Being inside and in a bed would be the part that drives me crazy.

Great news!
Successful surgery and minimal discomfort. Can't ask for more.

I hope you heal quickly.

To many visitors is better than none at all. At least they still like you Bob.

There are drawbacks to having visitors.
BigAl52 graciously came to visit me in the rehab facility after the heart surgery. I had to warn the nurses and keep an eye on Al in the room. Laughing

Oh, wait. I have that wrong. The nurses scattered because of me. Twisted Evil
Sorry for the error, Al. Very Happy
And thank you for your thoughtfulness!
