Lost my best buddy, "Tigger".  I had my Black Lab put to sleep last week.  Lots of tears from my wife and I. He went down hill pretty fast in the last week or so.  He couldn't make it up the three steps to the front door anymore so I would carry him.   He was 12 yrs. 9 months old.  He will be truly missed.

I hate seeing someone lose their dog. I know how hard it is.

I never know what to say, except I feel your pain.

This sucks very badly, I know how this feels buddy. He looks like a great dog in that picture, especially those eyes. Sorry for the loss Joe.

Thank you guys.  I appreciate it.  Dogs are called pets but they are really family members as you all know too well.

I know how you feel and believe me it isn't good. I lost my lab, Doc, a while back but still his memory lingers with my family after all these years. I've got a new dog and he's a good dog but he's not my " Doc ".
Take care Joe.

Hey Joe sorry for the loss. I know this day is coming for me in the future. I have 2 cavalier king charles spaniels that I am really attached to. The smallest one is without a doubt the best dog I have ever had. It will be a big blow when it happens. They to me are like kids as I am sure Tigger was to you. May Tigger rest in peace. Al

A really heartfelt commiseration on your loss.
Deciding when the time has come for our dogs is a small slice of hell.

I know with my recent decisions for our Greyhound, Geneva, (osteosarcoma that weakened her leg bone until it shattered while running) I was racked with guilt that my choices might have been wrong, caused needless suffering for them through some failing on my part.

Always there is limited information and irreversible choices.

Sadly, flawed as we most certainly are, they look to us to see them through this last challenge of life. We can only hope to try to repay their steadfast love with our feeble efforts and our tears.
The last duty of being their master is knowing when to say "enough".

You have to make that call of when they are ready but you are not. And that is the worst.

Someday I hope to be the person my dog thinks I am.

Remember the good times with Tigger.
Ron

Cripes Ron! I teared up reading your post. Dogs sure do get into our head and heart don't they.

I'm at the point with my dog Buddy that i'd give up my life for him the same as I know he would do for me.

We're still talking about dogs here right? Lol!  I just lost one of my GSP's last week too.  She was 14 years old.  Lots and lots of memories.  Sorry for your loss Joe...it can be tough.

Sometimes, more than not, they are closer than family members. Our lab insist that we spend quality time together before he beds down for the night, which is only a few feet away.

We have lost in the last several years two really great dogs.....first was a Bracco Italiano "Uncas"......super sweet dog...super gun dog. Uncas died on his 5th birthday from a twisted gut.....horrible death and I stayed up all night with him till I could get him to the vet. Our next dog was our bloodhound Horatio......again super sweet dog. He died of a brain Hemorrhage during a 40 minute seizure.....again I had to endure this terrible death......we live too far out to make emergency runs to the vet.......however nothing could have been done. Horatio died on his 5th birthday. Last December we bought "Boomer" an 8 month old Bloodhound...and man I can't help but wonder sometimes if that wasn't a huge mistake.....got him just before two major surgeries I had and he's been a handful. Learned too many bad habits as a pup from two previous owners. As I told Clair...apparently God wanted to stretch us a bit more, so He gave us a pain in the butt spoiled bloodhound........and even after he chewed a hole in the carpet last night............I guess we love him.

Had to put down my favorite gelding once...cried like a baby. I think the love for a pet is in many ways a genuine test as to our capacity to love...period. Bloodhounds typically live on average 8 years. Not sure at me age after Boomer leaves us I'll be getting any more dogs............too hard to loose them!

Understanding all y'all's losses!

Doug
