PostSubject: New Guy From Ohio   October 2nd 2016, 6:16 am

I found this site a couple of days ago and though I'd join up and learn a little and confirm what I think I know about muzzle loading.
Got my first cap and ball revolver in 1970ish followed by a H&R Huntsman in 58 caliber.
Tagged a lot deer in PA & Ohio over the years with a T/C Pennsylvania Hunter flintlock.
So, here I am, ready to learn and share.

I'm close to a little town called Mark Center, lived here for over 40 years.
Done a lot of muzzleloader hunting around Athens, Burr Oak, Union Furnace area years ago until my hunting pardner passed.

Well I will be danged~ My first ex-wife was from Mark Center, Arend was the last name~ in fact I lived there for a few years myself with her and the kids some time back. My son is a police officer over in Archbold. So still have ties that way. You might say I even went to Defiance College. Of course, that was almost 4 decades ago I graduated from there.

Then you remember the Funnel Inn.
I was only inside it once in my early 20's, it was too lively for me.

But, I still hunt, but not as much as I used too. Knees are bad.
Got a deer where I live this with a 38-55 Marlin.
The DNR did away with the early muzzleloader season, and I dont stand up to the cold like I used to.
I don't spend much time on this site, mostly hang out on the Castboolits gunloads website. I sort of get along with most everyone there not so many know-it-alls there, but people who know a lot.

Remind me where the Funnel Inn was. It sounds really familiar and no doubt I made it there. I was in the area, early 80s. Lived right in Mark Center when the store use to be right in the middle of town across the tracks.

Welcome to the forum hickory. Another 38-55 Marlin owner here. One of my favorite calibers for sure. Al

The Marlin in question was a standard 30-30 win., This past summer I sent it off go J.E.S. Reboring in Oregon and for $225.00 I had it rebored and chambered to 38-55 Winchester.
I took two boxes of empty 30-30 brass annealed the neck & shoulder area, loaded it with 10 gr. of Unique stuffed it full of paper towels and shot it straight up in the air. If you shoot horizontally it won't work for some reason.
I've been using 30 grs. of H322 for the powder Remington 9 1/2 primers with Lyman cast bullet #375449 sized @ .377" . Shoots great at 100 yards around 3" with factory sights.

Ohio has some silly regulations for deer hunting. It has to have a straight wall case, anything from 38 special to 50-110 is legal. Bottle neck cartridges like the 30-30 are not legal.

The Funnel Inn was North of the RxR tracks on the west side of the road next to the Methodist church.
It burnt down around 1974 or 75. Rumor is, when it caught on fire several local residents sent post cards to the fire department telling them it was on fire. But, that's just a rumor.

Okay, that is why I heard of it but never saw it. I was up there with my ex, in the early 80s. So it was ash when I got around to Mark Center.
