PostSubject: Off to the range!   October 15th 2016, 8:58 am

I have planned to go to the range several times, but other demands have interfered. I shot one of my muzzleloaders one time since March, but that is it.
Now, I have "graduated" cardiac (new aortic valve) rehab and there is only one more visit left for physical therapy for my knee (torn quadricep tendon). It's time to get out there. BigAl52 will meet me at the range where we will destroy evil paper targets, if after the layoff, I can hit the paper. Rolling Eyes Al will teach me about which end of the rifle I need to point toward the target. Very Happy

If you can't tell from the above that I am excited, then I will tell you straight away that I'm excited!

Ron

That afternoon at the muzzleloader range was invigorating!
Good friends, good conversation and good shooting.
Now, I have some rifle cleaning to do.

RonC,
Glad your getting back to your old self. You made mention about trying to shoot your ML'er off of shooting stix and believe me they work great. I didn't post any pics but I had 2 groups of 3. First group was at 6 and all three touching and the second group was at 11, all touching. Both groups were cutting the bull and 1" apart. The difference in the group was the group at 6 was with Goex 2F and the higher group was with OE 2F.............GOOD LUCK Exclamation Exclamation Exclamation

Glad you are up and moving around Ron! Just take it easy and let things heal up and slowly build your strength back up.

Ron brought out his Hatfield in 50 cal. Its a beautiful rifle. He had it set up for percussion and has the availibility to go flint with it also. He was having a little trouble with the nipple and I happen to have one of those Knight red hot nipples in my box. We changed out the nipple he had and no more problems. It was a nice shooting rifle 50 cal. He even let me put one down range. I took out the CVA 58 and played with it. I didnt take any target pictures but I did happen to get lucky a couple of times and hit 2 clay pigeons on the burm off hand at 50 yards. The gun shoots good Im happy with it. I also took out the GPR 54 Flintlock and had a great time with it. But it shoots way better than I do.. Had a great time with Ron and Phil. It was good to see Ron again and I really enjoyed the day. Al

Thank you for the red hot nipple! It really made a dramatic difference.
Seems that the original nipple was a bit too large in radius for the #10 and #11 caps I used. The first hammer strike just pushed the cap further onto the nipple and the second hammer strike set off the charge (if I was lucky).
The Knight red hot ignited every time.

Put that old nipple in a drill chuck and use a fine tooth file and turn it down a bit Ron.

The red hot however IMO is the best available when using subs.

That is a good suggestion. Phil encouraged me to do that as well.
When I returned home, I put in the flint lock. Curious to see how that will do.
Thanks,
Ron
