PostSubject: DROP FRONT BREECHES   November 18th 2016, 12:30 am

Got them today! They fit perfect in the waist and the length is perfect as well. I don't have mocs or moc boots yet but my hunting boots should do for now.

I might dye them a lighter brown as they are an off white color. Just seems a shame to dirty up a white pair of britches. :scucks

Who do you recommend I go to if I want to buy a pair of britches for a decent price?
Thanks,
Ron

Jon

I may have some walnut powder I can send you to dye those britches. Let me look. Moccasin boots are a †modern invention, somewhat modeled after Apache boots, †but really not fur trade period correct. †There was a type of foot wear earlier in the east called shoe packs, †which might have made it west, but more than likely most would have worn one piece side seam mocs or one or two types of eastern woodland styles. Winter mocs sometimes had a leg wrap that went up a few inches on the ankle. ..sometimes merely an extension of the moc flaps, †sometimes blanket material was used. The Corps of Discovery made up a 100 pairs of mocs, while in winter quarters in Oregon. .......mocs wore out fairly often †and the average man made his own.

by the way, †your new bakground is perfect!

Doug

If you can get past the "diaper butt" feel and look, they are actually pretty comfortable to wear out in the thick stuff.

Lighthorse, let me know what you find on that walnut dye powder! I'd like to take them to a darker shade so they don't stick out so much in a green forest LOL.

Although they do look pretty damn good with my maroon colored drop sleeve!

Lookin' good FG. Wink
Remove the white and you'll be set...and safe in the woods. You'd be crazy to wear anything solid white during our whitetail firearms season.

lighthorseman sent me a bag of walut powder dye. I got the pants soaking in the mixture since around 10 this morning. It will be interesting to see how they come out! It looks a little darker than my tea dyed muslin shirt so far, so thats a really good start so far!

Ouch......That seems a bit extreme!..........shouldn't have shrunk that much in warm...or I would think even in hot water. 3" in length or in the waist...or both?

3-4 in length and the waist was even worse lol. I forgot about the leather lace up strap in the back. I removed it before dying, and the pants are snug around the hips without the lace in place. Probably a 28" waste when fully closed VS 34" originally.

Heck, I used warm water and then let it cool down to where it was hardly even warm.

They said the pants are pre shrunk, but i think its crappy material they used. Just waiting on an email from them. $60 for a pair of pants that shrink in cold water doesnt set well with me. I bought a pair of these pants years ago from rendezvous and had zero problems washing them.

Doesn't sound like they were "preshrunk"........I'd try and get your money back. What size trousers do you wear?

34-34

I might try a 36 waist next time to allow for a little shrinkage.

Its crazy how much they shrunk! I held them up to myself this morning and was like.. uhhhh oh!

I'd consider making them into "trapper" pants and extend them with wool blanket, but they are just really tight now in the high and hips.

I'll give them a call in the AM and see what they'll do. Right now they are like those womens capri's!

okay they send to send them back. Something about pre-shrunk to 5% which doesnt really make a whole lot of difference as these shrunk to a size that only a 5'2 person could fit in comfortably lol.

Lighthorseman sent me a beautiful pair in trade! I got out today for pictures and they are super comfortable and no where near the "diaper butt" feel like the precious ones LOL. Very comfortable to walk in and they look good too.

Looks great! Here's something real easy to build........either of leather or blanket material, like your capote!

Kid I have used gaters for 40 years wore out a half dozen brain tanned ones, they were black on the fronts from bucking brush when hunting or just traveling on horseback or my foot. Great addition for the modern hunter to, sure saves on your clothes.
