PostSubject: I hate Summer   April 3rd 2017, 5:20 pm

After the first week or so of turkey season, it gets too hot here to put up with sweating and swatting bugs to finish out the season. It's been above 90 deg. for the better part of a week and I'm going stir crazy.

I already am ready for bow season but that doesn't start until the middle of September. So I've been reloading and reloading and ....
I figure I've got over 3000 rounds loaded so far .. and on a single-stage press.

(I know I should have posted this under Modern Guns/Reloading but I don't want everybody on the web knowing my business. This section is limited to registered members.)

Right on Bob, I suffer in the summer too! Those half a dozen or so days a year 90 or more are a killer.

Been snowing today. Got an inch before 10am, it melted and before 3pm had another inch. It melted and is now snowing again. Twenty two degrees expected by morning.

I'm so spoiled that any temps below 40 make me shiver. 22 deg. and snow doesn't sound like my cup o' tea, John. However, the elk, deer and wolverine would be a real treat. I guess alligators, pythons and tegus will have to suffice for me.

If you don't know what a tegu is, here's one attacking a dog:

One of my brothers lives in Helena and invited me to come up for the next deer season and hunt with him and one of my other brothers. They don't seem to realize that I'm 14 to 17 yrs. older than they are. The altitude and cold weather made me back out.

Way to go.  All my rifle re-loading is accomplished with a single stage press; usually an RCBS, Jr.   Pistol ammo is re-loaded by a friend with progressive re-loading machine.

I wish I had a Redding turret, at least, for the pistol shells. I tried a Lyman turret decades ago and the top got loose pretty quick so I went back to the orange crusher.

I bought a carbide sizer for 9mm Luger last week ... prices sure have shot up from when I started.

Back in Virginia, I loved Spring and Fall but was not very pleased with the depths of summer. The gnats would fly around your head if you stood still. Walk into the woods to check the well pump and you would walk back carrying your body weight in ticks. I HATE ticks!

As for reloading - my reloading bench is buried under loads of black powder equipment. I haven't reloaded much since I became involved with muzzle loaders. I have to begin again 'cause I need some 45 Colt.

It's hard to find .45 Long Colt cases at a decent price. I just bought a bag of 100 from Midsouth Shooter's Supply but they were no bargain. I usually buy range pick-ups by the thousand but nobody shoots that many .45 Colt shells.

I buy most of my brass from THR ( https://www.thehighroad.org/index.php ). You have to register to get access to the "Trading Post - Reloading".

I bought several hundred 45 Colt cases from the 'net. The reinforced bag showed up with the top cut off nice and clean with a knife and scissors. Someone at the post office has several hundred 45 Colt cases.

Arrrgh!.....Ron tell the P.O. their postal inspectors are pretty good investigators.

Clair and I were at the local gun shop.....she was off exploring and when we met up again she said "no limited on black powder"....I said "really...show me" she led me over to the smokeless powder, which in fact had a sign that said "no limit on powder"....I explained to her that was smokeless powder. Her response "can't you shot that in your guns"..."knowing she meant muzzle loaders. I said no. She was confused further until I explained that that powder was for reloading cartridge guns...she was astounded that you could reload cartridges.......guess I haven't done my work very well with educating my British bride. She was even more astounded that I actually did some reloading......she said "when we get rich, you're going to have to do lots of reloading"....to which I replied "Okay" t up

Oh, Lord... we have TEGUS?! What in the heck is a tegu!?

That video does not say anything about them. It just shows it chasing a dog. Tell me they only live near you, Bob... like those giant African slugs in Miami.

Florida is a combo of Jurassic Park, Alien, and Australia. How did Florida manage to become a tourist destination? Everything here tries to eat you, poison you, gore you, or infect you.

Tell me they aren't poisonous?
Bob is bored so he is entertaining himself by scaring me. affraid

I'd like the hunt the monkeys Bob tells us about in Florida! Along with the gators and hogs.

Bob, do you ever trap gators or is that illegal there?

In Florida you can hunt gators by hooking them with a rod & reel (heavy salt-water type), shooting them with a bow or crossbow with a line attached, or gigging them with a real heavy-duty trident type spear. You have to bring them to the boat and secure them before dispatching them with a bang stick. You can't do like "Swamp People" and put out unattended baited lines.

Of course, you have to apply for a license, enter a drawing and hope you're successful. Your license allows 2 gators and the charge for residents is $272 and a nonresident license is $1022.

If you can get 2 gators over 11-12 ft., you can make money on the deal perhaps but small ones (under 9 ft.) just get you a semi trophy.

I have never even entered an alligator drawing because I think it's a rip-off.

Colonel, be afraid, be very afraid. Your county has reported tegus and they are scattered all over the state from people releasing their "pets" when they get too aggressive.

The few skiffs of snow we get this time of year does not last long. There is very little moisture in the snow, some years it is so dry I do not have to shovel any, just rake and burn it.

Those tegus look like good targets for that 22-250 you have reloaded.

So far, our county doesn't have breeding populations of tegus, pythons, monitor lizards, or iguanas. However, there are several counties within a 70 mile radius that do.
I think a .22 magnum would be more than adequate for those critters.
