PostSubject: Thinking about a new rifle   April 4th 2017, 8:50 pm

Well, now that my Kentucky pistol kit is DONE,  I want a new rifle.

This time however, it will be for my dad. His cabelas hawken is just to damn unreliable and he and I both will most likely draw doe tags this year.

He has a 5lb weight limit per arm due to torn rotor cuffs from a truck accident 2 years ago, so I am looking to keep the rifle somewhat light and easy recoil.

For deer, Patched round ball without a doubt.

I thought about the st.louis kit as he likes my gun finishes better, but then I saw the traditions frontier with a 24" barrel. I think that might be better for him. Less weight, a little more compact.

It has the 1:48 twist which will handle everything I have in the gun closet.

I will go with the kit rifle so I can add the correct the rear sight for his vision, figure out what stock color he wants and then the barrel. I've been thinking about the cold blue/bleech trick a member on here told me about. May look into this soon!

What do you think about this rifle for my pap? I think it will fit the bill and get the job done.

A friend of mine had an Investarms  Hawken in the late '80s with a 24" barrel. Noticeably lighter than my T/C and accuracy was plenty good to 110yd and beyond. We shot 385gr Buffalo Bullets and 90-100gr Pyrodex, so recoil was substantial. PRBs would be just the ticket.
I'm bettin' Pap will be tickled with his new Frontier whether he tags out or not.
