A big PRB, but none the less a cool hunt. Except for the ranch part, but all buffalo hunting is that way now.

Wrong again pal.  Not all buffalo huntings are on ranches, Utah and several of the others states have drawings just like for elk and deer.  I shot a 1,000 lb. cow here 3 years ago Pete off on the draw.

A ranch on Kodiak features a herd of about 350 free range on 24,000 acres, fair chase only, about 99% on horseback. Owner is a good friend and I've helped out on several of the hunts. Biggest, baddest lone bull hunts take anywhere from 3-6 days of hard riding, stalking and pure work.  Guys on those hunts EARN their buffalo, cuzz the owner and guide won't allow muzzleloader shots past 50 yards, and those big lone bulls are smarter than whitetails I've known.

Just got back from Leota KS went to see some old friends, use to hunt near by in Wallace KS on 23 sections of ground for buffalo. Stopped by to say hello and found the rancher had passed on a few years ago. Now researching a few new places in NE north western part of the state.
