I have a T/C 12 bore that came with tubes.
I use the I.C. tube, 70 grains Holy Black,
card wads, and 1 ounce of lead # 6 shot.
Decent pattern at 25 yards.
I seldom get a shot at squirrel, rabbits, past 25 yards.
Ton's of fun.
Ohio is bird poor.
Pellet fertilizer and road salt is hard on all birds.
Haven't seen a quail in 50 years.
CATS.
Stinkin' cats kill the young birds.
People dump "fluffy" all the time and let it go feral.
I shoot these critters on sight. Cats that is. Twisted Evil
One Jan. with fresh snow I bounced THREE feral
cats out of brush piles.
Got 'em all.
Cats should be in the house well feed, fat, and purring
on the couch.

A cat story.
I spotted a cat stalking game about 150 yards from my back door.
I got the varmint rifle and looked at it through the scope.
It went tippy, tippy, tippy, thump.
It had 3 legs.
Well I was going to shoot the thing anyway but for sure now that I saw
it was injured.
Bang, flop.
So I retrieved it to bury it and found one leg was surgically removed!!!
ooooooops.
Someone put a lot of bucks into saving tippy thump, but WHY let it run loose?
Oh, well, what a shame.  Rolling Eyes
I almost felt bad.
Almost.

Back in the 1970's and early 80's a Pietta 12 SxS was the only thing I used for my ptarmigan, waterfowl and snowshoe hare hunting. Along came steel shot, and I got frustrated and sold it.  Regretted it almost right away once bismuth appeared, but got too busy to replace it.

About 10 years back I picked up another of the same thing, and since then I haven't fired a shot from a modern shotgun. I pretty much limit my shots to 25 yards, but I use 1f powder rather than 2f and get better patterns for it. Same in my 20 gauge, 10 gauge and 75 caliber (measured) Brown Bess.

I have two 12 ga. SxS shotguns, a Navy Arms Pietta and a CVA. The CVA is a little lighter, handles a little better and has a recoil pad so I use it the most. I only use it after deer season and load one barrel with buckshot for hogs and the other with 7 1/2 shot for birds, squirrels. and rabbits. It's fun but there's a long pause between shots due to the time it takes to reload.
I've killed doves, ducks, crows, squirrels and rabbits with it but no hogs yet. I originally wanted to use it for deer with buckshot in the right barrel and a patched ball in the left but the ball wasn't accurate past 40 yds. so I scratched that idea.

I have a Navy Arms by Pietta and a Pedersoli with changable chokes. I used the Pedersoli last year for dove season. It was not bad except all the missed chances while your reloading .

For Smoothbore hunting I usually use these two.
A flintlock fowler , .20 gauge made by Georges Laloux circa 1900
Or a Circa 1850 combination gun with a .12 gauge smooth and a .44 rifled barrel.

Here's an original 1850's Evan's shotgun in 16 gauge and .52 caliber.

This is a Caywood custom with additional features like finials, checkering, deluxe wood and custom barrel in .54 caliber (.24 gauge). Correct proofmarks, engraving, and stamps.

As good as my Browning side by side, would rather shoot the Evans (just have to be careful as its been in the family for over a 100 years). It gets a major cleaning every time its been used.
