PostSubject: Inconsistent    10/28/2017, 5:04 pm

All I had out my Buckstalker with 300 gr Pt Golds in the harvester red sabot . Usually I use the 250 gr monoflex over 100 gr of bh 209.  The rifle has liked the 300 pt golds in the past . Today started out good due to Cabelas being out of 209 i had triple 7 FFFG  instead.  The first group was 1.11 inches and thats when the inconsistency started most groups were 2 inches and I had 4 fliers 2 inches low  straight down.

Now I haven't used 777 much but the can I used was about 4 yrs old and opened previously and the sabots were really tight so I am wondering if the powder was inconsistent or is there such a thing as a overly tight sabot affecting accuracy ?  I checked the rings and mounts they seem tight so I'm some what perplexed.

Was this a can you opened or one purchased that was open?

If you were using old 777 that could be it. Were you swabbing between shoots? you need to with that powder.

The can was about 4 yrs old and had been opened about 4 times as it was only about 1/3 full.  I was thinking that maybe I was deforming the tip I experimented with the bullet sabot combo on the bench with the loading tip and didn't see any deformation  but you never know loading a .507-8 bullet sabot combo in a 501 bore is tough.  I swapped after every shot, I also noticed when I swabbed that some patches came out fairly clean while others came out dirty, (inconsistent burn) ?

Old T7 IMO. I hate that stuff. In all of the years I've been shooting BP, I've shot only 2lbs of T7 because its been all over the place, accuracy wise.

Well I agree with you Jon I've only had any luck in a .45 cal bolt action ml .  However I also think I found the real problem here I went to give this rifle a second cleaning so I vised it and put a level on the scope and guess what the outside of the scope is level but the recticle is sitting a a nice 11 to 5 angle instead of the 12-6 so its popped .

i agree with above, swabing wet and followed by dry patches is a must for consistant accuracy. if you do that you can look for other answers if the problem presists. that why i recommend a stiff range rod to be carried along with the one that comes with a gun. the range rod is made for a swift good cleaning of the barrel. the rods under the gun are made for looks.

Well it was the scope. Took same gun same bullets etc. Had my new burris scope on it. Two groups under an inch at 100, course it took me 6 shots to get it on paper at 50. lol

Clyde, I edited your post. With no punctuation or caps I had to read it 3 times before I could figure it out.
