PostSubject: TC Hawkin questions   October 29th 2017, 12:35 pm

I bought a used TC Hawkin in 50 cal with the serial number K336177. What can you guys tell me about this rifle ? Is it an early version or newer version etc. ? It does not have a clean out screw, I had thought all TC's had a clean out screw ?

It's not an early one with the serial number and the K means it was a kit gun. That's not all bad if the builder did a good job. I bought a TC Hawken that was a kit gun and was better built than any factory gun.

The fit and finish looks great and the bore is like brand new. He said he only took it to the range 2 times and black powder just was not for him. He is staying with center fire rifles

It sounds like you got a good gun.

The 'K' signifies a kit like Pete has said. There will also be a 'K' stamped into the barrel channel of the stock of a kit gun (if not mixed matched around by someone looking for better wood at the dealer). I looked at my old store records, as we sold many TC Hawkens (but the serial numbers may be misleading not knowing how long the kit was sitting on the shelf at TC or the supplier). Yours with a serial number [ K336177 ] from my records in that range of numbers looks like 1996-1998. But like said "how long was it on the shelf".

Thank you for the information. By not having a clean out screw help to narrow down time line ?

Pretty sure the early versions had the cleanout screw. That's why I said it wasn't one of those. The first ones were around 1970.

That's correct from what I can remember, we just sold them didn't have time to fondle them, just a sale back then.
