PostSubject: My Truck is Injured   November 8th 2017, 1:46 pm

My truck started making a thumping noise when going over bumps. It got worse and worse until I thought the rear axle was loose on one end. It turns out that 4 of the 6 bushings holding the cab to the frame are deteriorated and the whole cab is bouncing when I hit a bump.
They have to back-order the bushings from Ford which probably means there are a lot more trucks doing the same thing after 10-12 years of rough riding.

They call the truck Super Duty but I think it's more like Wimpy Duty. I only have 80 k miles on it.  No

wow that it a short time period!

Do like jeep did when they first came out, Use wood bushings between the frame and cab.

Down here termites, carpenter ants, powder post beetles and bore beetles would make short work of wood. Maybe nylon or a suitable synthetic product would be a good choice.

I've felt the anguish of vehicle troubles lately myself...and it couldn't have happened at a worse time with hunting season upon me.  After 135,000 miles I had to replace the rear spider gear assemble and bearings on my 2001 JEEP Cherokee last week.   Found out it had the better Chrylser 8.25 rear on it rather than the Dana 35 turd...probably why it lasted that long towing my boat.

Marty the last Jeep truck we had I replaced both axles with 60 series Dana's, that was 25 years ago and its still going without any issues and who knows how many miles as the meter broke at 191K (that was 10 years or so ago). The grandson drives the crap out of it on the farm and mountain and it still keeps going. :rtup

That old jeep truck was a war wagon, it was narrow enough it when were all the other 4 wheelers couldn't. We would go down old mining road, game trails, through the woods to good fishing and hunting spots. Fill our limits then on the return trips would see Blazers and Broncos high centered or had slid off the road because of their width. Yes they could haul 5 guys inside to our two but we had the bed for anything from game to firewood for traction, fun vehicle. Finally blow up the 4 banger and replaced it with a small block Ford with more power than we really needed.

No surprise Buck' that your truck held up so long with the Dana 60's.   I think the strongest stock axle available at the time for 2001 Jeeps which is what I have was a Dana 44.

It's still going for an old Jeep Gladiator 1965 pickup but for how long I don't know with the grandson and his friends go with it (they are pretty hard on material things, probably because they are all spoiled with us trying to make their lives better than what ours was at that age).

Kids like to break things. I had a '69 Bronco and gave it to my mother when I bought a power wagon (big mistake). My younger brothers went up a ski hill in reverse because low 4wd wasn't low enough.

My step- father rolled it taking a turn too fast when he was drunk.
I wish I had it now.  Crying or Very sad

When I was in 5th grade, a classmate told me that FORD stood for Fix Or Repair Daily. I believed it for quite a while until my mother told me it was the name of the owners.  study

Found On Road Dead. But I have one of each Ford F150 my wife has a Jeep Wranger and I have a Dodge 3500 dually to pull the trailer. My F-150 so far as been very good. I really like that twin turbo V-6 it definitely does a good job pullling and is fun to drive. The Jeep has been fine only bitch I have about it is the headlights and fog lights sucked. I replaced the fogs with LED and the Headlights I replaced with a better reflector housing and better bulbs. Both of those made a huge difference. The 3500 is diesel. Big bucks when they break. But so far it does a good job with the 5th wheel. Al

Those old Jeep "pickups" had a very high number of fatal crashes.

I stayed with a family on the eastern Wyoming/Montana border while hunting mule deer and antelope and their daughter was in a wheelchair with a broken back due to losing control of their Jeep p/u due to a steering failure. I don't remember what the actual part was that broke.

Guys , When your looking for the body bushings and such, look at hot rod stuff. 200 percent better quality. Price is close to factory. Poly something or other compaired to crap rubber. The performance crowd don't have to buy crap. By the way could anyone idenify a 1970 Jeep Wagoneer. Now there was a real rust bucket. I used to own and run a body and repair shop.About every 3 to 4 years , she made a rip through the shop. , body panels, doors ,floor panels, tailgate, what ever it took.Had a 350 Buick in it. I sold it in 96 for 2500 dollars , way short of what it took to keep it on the road. I can say one thing , never had to walk home . This was a plus cause where I went , there wernt no one. The price of wanting to be alone.

Owned several Jeeps, mostly used; but including a new 1967 Jeepster Commando and a a 1983 Scrambler.

In the  1980s i built a 1951 flat fender Jeep with a new Sears body.   The engine was a 2.3 liter  Pinto  built by a friend who raced midgets.   The engine put out over 175 horsepower on the dyno.   The transmission was an SM 420 four speed; the transfer case had a Warn over drive.   The differentials were stock USMC with Limited Slip.  Its hard to get parts for those old  Jeeps now.

For 22 years i've had a 1994 Toyota pickup that has been trouble free.  The only drive train components  replaced in 220,000 miles were the clutch, timing chain and gears and one universal joint.

never owned a jeep and don't need one. I prefer the ride and comfort of my Yukon. Especially the heated seats in the winter. My wife says I am spoiled, I say she is the one that spoiled me.  lol
