PostSubject: Got a hog this morning   December 14th 2017, 1:57 pm

A friend called me this morning and said he just trapped a hog and for me to come get it if I wanted it.
I got there and saw it was a ~130 lb. boar hog. The teeth didn't look all that big so I decided to have him made into sausage.

The gun shown below is my S&H Green Stamp gun. I bought it new with S&H Green Stamps in 1962. It was the second gun I ever owned. I picked it out of the S&H catalog and they sent it to my house. This was prior to the GCA of 1968 back when "gun" wasn't a dirty word.

Bob,

Wow, what a rifle. Looks almost like the Remington 572 Fieldmaster.

Congrats, a good one for sausage.

That boar hog was feisty. He ran at the bars of the trap so hard, I thought he might bust out. I let him calm down for about 10 minutes before I shot him.

Man....  S&H Green Stamps....   Haven't thought of them in years.  My mom still has several books of them left from back in the days I remember when gas wars put gas down to 10 cents a gallon with triple green stamps.  Of course, dear sweet old mom is such a packrat, she probably still has the receipts for all the stuff she bought to get the green stamps! Very Happy

Those were most certainly the days.  You were riding pretty high with that fine rifle.  Best I recall my 22 at that time was an elderly Winchester single shot because I was saving money for my first centerfire, a Model 70 257 Roberts I had on layaway for over a year. Kinda hard to build up much jingle as a kid earning a penny a pipe setting irrigation siphon tubes!

Thanks for the memory jog!  Makes me proud you still own that rifle, and in such fine shape!

One 350 pound boar started butting the trap when i was 75 yards away.    Assumed a good sitting position and sniped him with my .300 Win Mag.

Yeah! When he started bloodying his nose trying to get me, I paraphrased the line from "Jaws". "We're going to need a bigger gun."    Shooter

Fortunately he calmed down and the .22 did the trick.
