PostSubject: Hello From Western Australia   February 8th 2018, 6:20 am

G'day all,  got onto this site care of a mate also down under. Looking forward to learning from you all, and may be help a little myself. I have been shooting muzzle loaders since 1972, both hunting small game and competing in my local rifle club.  We have a pretty active black powder community down under. What I love about black powder is there is always something new to learn

Cheers

Thanks Marty,  its rabbits, foxes and kangaroos mostly. I have a lovely  Niel Fields built early Lancaster with a .40 swamped collerain barrel and a Jim Chambers round faced lock, also a half stock leman rifle in .36 he built for my late father. That is my favourite hunting rifle. I used to hunt with Pat 53 two band rifle when I was a teenager, then later a .50 Missouri iron mounted plains rifle. That was when I discovered how much easier it was to hunt with the flatter trajectorys of the patched ball rifle.  I have a number of caplock and flintlock round ball rifles, all custom.  We do have pigs locally and fallow deer but ver hard to get at. Mostly on govt land which we are generally not allowed to shoot over.   I got 8 rabbits when sitting on my rocker on the back stoop with another flintlock .36 rifle a couple of years ago. There were a bunch of them in the garden so I waited till over time they got big enough for the pot. I range shoot with some Parker Hale repros, two Navy rifles, a .451 first generation Volunteer, and an original Pat 53 that I started with as a kid of 11 or 12.

Mate it will be a couple of weeks before I can post photos as I am away from home for work. But will post some when I get back. Niel Fields is based near Vernal Utah, and did work for Green River in the early days. We also have a few down under rifle builders but the are hobbyists and most would not take a commission.

Wow. Australia is a big place. Are there really so few muzzleloaders down under that you all know one another? Laughing

Nice to have you aboard, Gordon.

Lol more like an educated guess!

There aren’t many of us for sure but it was too much of a coincidence that an hour after sending Gorden a link to a thread that a West Australian joined... 😉

At first I too wondered scratch the same as the 'Colonel.   Apparently there are far more front-stuffers up above than down under.

Gents, you are right, more front stuffers up than down under.  It has a gamey taste, young kanga tail in the camp oven with plenty of bacon, onions etc and a good slug of port!

Go to whatever photo editing program you have and there should be a rotate left or right "button".  Just press that until you stand tall. Smile

Marty thanks for that,  still not clever enough to sort it, so tried another photo. That is an offhand Hythe target shot with a Pat 53 using the Enfield paper cartridge and the pritchett bullet. Old shot and the ammunition has been developed more since then and shoots a lot tighter. That was offhand at 100 yds.

Welcome, heelerau!
I've enjoyed and learned from some of your posts on other sites. I'm certain that you will be a valuable addition to this site.
