What is the general opinion on yellow shooting glasses?  I wear glasses anyhow so I have never tried anything special for my shooting but I was checking out a pair of shooting glasses that fit over my own specs.  Things look a lot different in the store and they seemed to cut the glare and reflections from the overhead lights but inside isn't the same as being out looking at a target.  Should I try them or are they a gimmick ?

I have used yellow shooting glasses that use shatter-proof lenses. I bought mine years ago for practically nothing .. like $5 or $6. They brighten everything up. I found them very useful for 'penetrating' shadowy areas and seeing more clearly on overcast days.

When looking for deer from the road, they helped to cancel out shadows so you could see details farther into the woods.
I never thought they helped much when looking at a target though.

I just purchased some "over the glasses safety glasses by Allen.  I purchased two pair, one yellow and one clear.  I just tried the yellow pair and they work great.  After a bit you forget you have them on.  I thought they would be too bulky but not so.  They are cheap also, round $10 or so.

Thanks.  I'll try a pair - the deer spotting sounds good.

My son is red/green color blind. He can look down a hiway lined with woods and tell cedars from pines from oaks. They look like different colors to him .. mainly dark shades of red or brown. He thought red cedars got their name because the foliage is red. That's what it looks like to him.

However, he can't follow a blood trail because the blood blends in with the grass and weeds. It all looks the same color to him.

I find they work the best -- for me -- on overcast days; but on really bright sunny days it's like "Whoa, dim the lights there fellas..." and I switch to a green or brown tinted lens.

My son also loves them when driving at night, especially in the rain.  They seem to help visibility in those tough conditions too.

I always seem to go reaching for my amber glasses on the range...cloudy or sunny.  Had these for a long time.

This should give you an idea of the shading color through my window today.

White-out conditions here in Maine...

Even with binoculars, I wouldn't be able to see that shed!

Those were cool pix, though, thanks for adding them.  I may have to look for an "amber" pair to supplement my yellow and others.

We could sure use it too.  Oregon's governor just signed a drought declaration for Eastern Oregon.

I'm curious strong eagle with the degree of your color blindness.  Of the two snow pictures I posted above, how do they look different to you Question

OTC shooting glasses wouldn't be much help for me.  I had cataracts removed over a year ago and the lenses I received give me good distance vision.  I don't need glasses to drive, watch movies, etc. any longer.  Trouble is that I have to wear reading glasses in order to see pistol/rifle sights/read; but I have to take them off to look for deer and other game & targets.  It may be that I'll have to get some sort of prescription shooting glasses.  Any opinions on how they should be configured so I can see both sights and game with them?

I'd appreciate the members' opinion on this as well as color.  Thanks.

I have heard of guys taking a handgun into their eye doctor to get the right set up for shooting and seeing AFTER talking to the doctor about the whole thing.  I think some kind of bifocal would work for you.

Here's the truth about these glasses, be sure they are shatter-proof. Got my first pair from Remington back in the 70's and I was hooked.  :tup2  Excellent game glasses.  :rtup

Buck, I'm gonna go to my "I" doctor and see what he can set me up with.  Not today, not tomorrow, but before too long.
