PostSubject: 2018 GRRW Rendezvous in Grand Junction, Colorado September 22, 2018   July 14th 2018, 7:37 pm

Grand Junction is called the gateway to the Colorado Canyonlands and Wine Country. Located on

Interstate 70, the city is a 4-hour drive from Denver, or 5 from Salt Lake City. Home of the Grand Junction Regional Airport, serviced by Allegiant Air (Las Vegas-Thurs and Sun) American Eagle (Dallas/Fort Worth and Phoenix, AZ), Delta Connection/SkyWest (Salt Lake City), United Express/SkyWest (Denver) and Denver Air Connection (Denver). Major rental car companies are located on the premises.

Grand Junction is on the most popular, scenic route of the Amtrak train in the United States. Close proximity to Arches, Canyonlands, Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Parks and Dinosaur National Monument. The Colorado National Monument is located on the southwest part of Grand Junction with 11 red rock canyons and 23,000 acres of towering rock and spires. To the east of the Monument is the Grand Mesa National Forest and Scenic & Historic Byway, the world’s largest flat-top mountain. The “Mesa” is covered with lush aspen, which provide yellow fall colors, is home to Powderhorn Ski Resort and over 200 stream-fed lakes.

Experience the "wild and old west" with weekly rodeos, horseback riding in the "Wild Horse" range, canyon lands and mesas. Try world-class rafting on the Colorado River or a calm float trip, followed by a buffalo brisket dinner. If 2 wheels are your style, try mountain biking on the world-famous Kokopelli Trail. For something unique, there is rock climbing, canyoneering or hiking in both alpine and canyon lands environments. For history on Grand Junction, a visit to the Museum of the West is a must. Step into an adobe dwelling filled with ancient Native American pottery, follow the history of the weapons that tamed the west, including handguns of Kit Carson and Buffalo Bill and venture into our uranium mine.

With five affordable golf courses, you are certain to find one that suits your level of play, with a bonus of stunning red rock views. With its excellent soil and temperate climate combining to produce quality grapes, the valley has earned its reputation as “Colorado’s Wine Country.” Enjoy a taste at one of 23 wineries or local fruit orchards – cherries, apples, plums, pears, apricots and our juicy peaches! For shopping, stroll Main Street, where you’ll find historic buildings, fountains, art galleries, antique shops, and restaurants. Our “Art on the Corner” was the first Main Street sidewalk sculpture exhibit in Colorado and features over 100 sculptures. Mesa Mall, Western Colorado’s largest indoor, regional shopping mall offers large anchor stores and smaller chain stores.

Grand Junction’s Art and Culture are celebrated many ways. The Western Colorado Center for the Arts features permanent and temporary exhibits of native and contemporary artists of the Southwest as well as Anasazi pottery and Navajo rugs. The performing arts are represented by the Symphony, local theater companies, and Colorado Mesa University drama, dance and music performances.

With over 3000 sleeping rooms, Grand Junction lodging ranges from full-service hotels and efficient motels to cozy bed and breakfasts, in every price range.

We are now looking at hotels for us and our families, with a restaurant and a conference room for the gun show with an area for a trader’s row. The Chamber of Commerce and Grand Junction Tourism Council are helping with our search. Those that are interested please let us know by writing to Bob Allen at: bob@bucksnorttrading.com

Thank you.

We would love to see anyone that can make it.

Remember these old gunsmith's are starting to fade away, having lost one fine old man this passed year. Lloyd Helms was a fun guy, very smart, had worked for GRRW getting all the equipment tuned to operate at 100%. He also started and owned "Oregon Rifle Works" along with several other related muzzleloading firms in a 60 years span.

These guys are in their late 70's to early 80's and build more guns in a year than many other smiths can only dream about. Fun group with some really nice guns will be on display.

The Green River Gazette will get this event setup and moving forward shortly, more to follow ... Bob Clements is working on this event this year.

ATTENTION
It looks like the gentleman that was to run this event has done nothing I was told. It will not happen this year with nothing setup.

To run such an affair it takes weekly contacts with motels, various folks for rooms, places for families to do things, different places that can handle a large crowd for lunches, etc.

I spent at least 40-50 hours total over 3 months on last years event to make it a success, have no idea what the new person has done other than talk.
