Have a Thunderhawk and have shot some PRB's through it at 30 and 40 grains of 3F and it is accurate at lower charges. Wondering if anyone else has a Thunderhawk or Firehwak they shoot PRB's through? 1-38 Twist rate.

My .54 caliber Fire Hawk shoots patched .530 round balls very well using 80-100 grains of Black MZ powder. The tight fitting ball is seated hard on the powder. i use Frontier patch lube.

1:38 will shoot a round ball well. I'd even suggest a higher charge of 50 to 60 grains 3fg. My brother has a 1:32 twist sidelock and i've found the most accurate charge of 60gr 3fg with a round ball.

Scoped it up and sighted it 1 1/2 high at 25 with quarter sized groups. 15 thous patches to tight, had to go to 10 thous. 70 grains 3f. Now to shoot at 100. 21-inch barrel so I think maybe only 1350 to 1400 fps. Patches were not burned at all, looked good. The crown is sharp, needs a lite conning of the muzzle done. Get back.

I have a thunderhawk .54 it shoots/shot .530 rb's well at near max charges 110/120 grns of pyrodex. I wouldn't have expected it to. It also shot sabots well but would not shoot conicals at all "key hole at 50 yds" tried various bullets caps and charge combinations. I live in Oregon so I can't hunt with sabots and rbs lose horsepower too quickly so the gun collected dust for years. I was reading about other people having problems with t/c's QLA not shooting conicals well and having them removed. The value of the gun didn't justify a trip to the gunsmith so I cut aprox. 3/4 inch of the end with a cutting wheel then trued it up with a file, used valve grinding compound and a large marble to make the crown "took forever" but it shoots 380 R.E.A.Ls and lyman 430s well with 100 grns now. Havn't tried rb's or sabots

Mine does not have an OLA. I just cleaned up my crown with a brass tapered with 1000 grit Clover and a hand drill. Handspun some red 3M and never really changed anything but the elimination of a sharp edge.
