That’s the cal of my nib one. A good ideal caliber.
I have a Lyman GPR in 54 also with 1:60. What’s yours going to be?

Most likely 1:60, it seems about perfect for 54 Cal.

I've had several barrels re-bored by Mr. Hoyt, mostly in .58cal.   He's re-bored mine in 1:60 twist for patched round balls.

I lucked into a TC Cougar rifle at a pawn shop. The wood was very nice, but the bore was dirty. The "dirty bore" drove down the asking price to an irresistible level. It is a TC Hawken with better wood and with a cougar medallion where the patch box should be.

Buck,
I would have preferred that they not put the cougar medallion in, but still, I can't complain as it is a nice rifle.

The Cougar received much better wood than the standard Hawken.

VERY NICE Rifle Ron!! I have often spoke of one of these as a being a “Dream Rifle” to me, With a Stainless Green Mountain LRH Barrel. (Forum member Saxtonyoung has one/ Put one together) I keep hoping i will run in to one of these just like you did with a “Dirty Bore” and get it Cheap Very Happy But to date i have yet to see one of these anywhere around here, They Bring a Fair Mint online. I don’t feel the same about the Stainless GM LRH Barrels as i once did (i MUCH prefer the Blued Versions) But either Barrel looks AWESOME in these Cougar Stocks! I would actually like/prefer the Medallion, I have Zero use for my Patch Boxes on my TC Hawkens.

They made a Cougar, and an Elite, I can’t remember the difference in them now? Saxtonyoung will know for Sure. I thought they were the Same thing, but their are not, There are differences

Once every few years a nice muzzleloader will show up at this particular pawn shop. This Cougar was the best that I found there.
I did find a WW II Mauser 98K with all matching serial numbers, there. But that is an "unmentionable" rifle on a black powder site. Very Happy

Back in the 50's my father bought a six-pack of new still packed in the original paper and wood case of Mauser (big ring) 98 (8MM) WWII version with all the Nazi stampings from Bannerman & Sons. He had ammo boxes, Nazi ammo (unopened), several other empty rifle cases like mentioned and so on. He never would tell me even to the day he died 25 years later how much he paid for them.
Bought another T/C Hawken Mauser-98

I sold them in the same condition still unpacked along with a small collection of WWII arms and Nazi items. In the 1990's this stuff had a hot market, it was the time to sell according to a few consultants dealing in these items. They hit it right on the head with their information, 30 years later this set hasn't increased like most other antiques.

Wrong place for this, just a reply to Ron C's comment.

The Elite has a stainless tang and stainless barrel , the stock has neither a patch box or medallion.

The Cougar has a blue barrel and tang and the stock has the Cougar medallion.
