Awesome deal! One of my favorite Muzzleloaders! I have a hard time walking by a Renegade or a Hawken and not buying it, A peek in my Gunsafe tells the tale Very Happy

That’s the cal of my nib one. A good ideal caliber.
I have a Lyman GPR in 54 also with 1:60. What’s yours going to be?

Most likely 1:60, it seems about perfect for 54 Cal.

I've had several barrels re-bored by Mr. Hoyt, mostly in .58cal.   He's re-bored mine in 1:60 twist for patched round balls.

My one Hawken was a .54 with the 1:48 twist. It now wears a Green Mountain .58 with 1:70. Very nice to shoot!

I love the .58 cal.  Had a senior moment and sold mine.  I'll get another rifle and send the barrel off to Mr. Hoyt some time in the future. Very Happy

80gr 2fg, .018" patch and .530 round ball is always my go to load. Try the .020" next.

I lucked into a TC Cougar rifle at a pawn shop. The wood was very nice, but the bore was dirty. The "dirty bore" drove down the asking price to an irresistible level. It is a TC Hawken with better wood and with a cougar medallion where the patch box should be.
