Got this today! CVA Firebolt Ultra Magnum .45cal 1:28 twist. It's set up for musket caps for now.

I want to dip it when it's warmer out, but this should be a cool project. Great trigger pull to, very crisp.

Where is the Pic? I have a TON of different bullets that i am Confident will shoot Good in that Twist Rate :tup2

Here are a couple of fun ones, both are .45 Colt Pistol Bullets and weigh 250, and 260 Grains. These would make Good Deer Hunting Bullets. My Rice Barrel on my Sidelock is 1:20 Twist and Shoots these Really well
Picked up a .45 XRc3PGol

These are from my new Maxi Hunter mold, i bet that 1:28 would shoot these well, Along with my 2-3 Different Maxi Balls, These weigh in the 240 Grain Range

This is one of my Favorites, the Lyman Gould at 350 Grains, i can pour this bullet Solid or Hollow Point, And this Thing shoots STELLAR in my 1:30 Twist

Gould in the middle, and my Lyman 292 Grain on the outsides

Good looking rifle!! My favorite Caliber! If i could legally Elk hunt here in Idaho with 1 of my 45s, My 50s and 54s would live a lonely life in my Gun Safe! The .45 is incredibly versatile, Lots n lots of bullet choices, from Mice to Moose :tup2

When you get ready to start shooting that rifle i will send you some bullets to try if you like? I wonder what the typical Bore Diameter is in those? I can size 45s from .449 through .454 in .001 steps

I plan on looking for a maxiball mould for deer hunting. I can't wait to strip it down and clean it up then look into a 209 breech plug setup

I too am a big fan of the faster twist 45 calibers. Lyman 457193 proved to be very effective in a 45 Omega which also had a 1-28" twist.

Yes but the front was broken so i took them off and scrapped them. They were cheap plastic sights.

Correction, its a CVA Firebolt Ultra Magnum.

I just got back home and junked the scope and rings. Not messing with that stuff. I'll be taking it out into the shop and soak the bolt in penetrating oil before making an attempt at breaking down the bolt. No rust, just super tight and I want to do things right to prevent damage.

Got a Winchester Vortex 45Cal. Put a 3X9X40 Nikon Scope on it. Been using 180Gr. XTP Bullets with Light Blue Sabot, pushed by 80Gr. Pyrodex RS. Going to 200Gr. XTP.

Very simple nice Rifle.

All stripped down and ready for me to go to work in it. Had to mod a wrench to get the musket cap nipple out. Bore ended up having some very light pitting near the breech but I think it will clean up really good once I use some shoot out in it.

Got the rifle put back together with the exception of the breech plug. Later down the road I will pull the barrel off and bed it. It only has one screw holding it to the stock, So I want to remove anything touching the barrel, and make sure the rear is bedded solid.

Also got the bolt apart and other than some minor rust, it cleaned up perfect and was reoiled and reinstalled.

I'll have to figure something out for optics.

As you might remember FG my CVA .45 Hunterbolt also had only one screw through the stock, so I reinforced the bedding area.   I floated my barrel too and it was a great shooter.   Never should have traded it away. Crying or Very sad

Yep, I still have that one saved Marty! I thought about bedding the barrel completely, but man! that would take a ton of bedding. I'll shoot it first and then go from there. I still have to do my X-150 first and get her all set up properly.

Installed a 3-12x40 konuspro last night. I will see how it shoots then buy something better, along with different mounts/rings.

Perfect timing! Maxiball mould came in today and so I installed the hex head CVA breech plug with a larger o ring installed in the primer pocket. When you close the bolt on a primer, you see the primer push inward, against the o ring nicely! Didn't even have to shim the bolt on this one. Primer was 100% sealed up when I test fired some primers, so we should be set.

Now to start casting some maxiballs for her!

Ok shes all loaded up! Im using a new break in lube I made for this one. I want to smooth out the bore and so I am going to give this a try for 10 shots. Im using small 50 grain black mz charges with a tight fitting .020" patch and a .020" round ball. Yes, that 1:28 twist is fast for them, but I am just interested in cleaning up the bore a little before settling down to shooting conicals. Plus I can zero in the scope very cheaply lol.

I have certainly enjoyed this one. I really love that 228gr lyman maxi ball i cast for it. Easy recoil and great hunting accuracy so far.

Like Marty did with his, I to plan on bedding the action and free float the barrel.
