PostSubject: Old heavy 30 cal barrel   Old heavy 30 cal barrel EmptyMay 6th 2019, 4:30 pm

Ok all,
I need a spot of help figuring out what weight bullet to try shooting out of an  old sleeved barrel I am building for a fun gun.

It is an 1 1/16" the was sleeved to about 30 caliber, stamped to have a 1 in 24" twist. Am needing to slug the barrel and get a good measure.

Will post pictures later tonight hopefully.

Thanks in advance.
Mike

It’s gonna take a short, lighter weight Bullet to Stabalize. I just played around with numbers on JBM Stability and i came up with .6 long, 115 Grains

Something like this, About .6 long

The military standard for Stability is 1.5, The Bullet Above is pretty darn close, 1.629 in the Green.

These small bores are a lot of fun, but REALLY rough on nipples, i had to go to a Platinum lined nipple in my 1:15 Fast Twist .36 Cal, about 12 Shots on a Brand new Treso/Ampco nipple and it was TOAST! The Platinum lined nipples are 60 bucks a piece Very Happy

She shoots good  :tup2

This is the bullet i had made for the Rifle, Accurate Molds

Thanks for the info and rough calculations for the bullet. I haven't used JBM before, is a good resource I need to experiment with some.

I totally agree, but it is just hand thread it in for the photo. Will be properly seated before any use..
