lol be nice to Corey! Hes got a great rifle here and all she needed was a new look before going out to the woods and putting meat on the table. I am thinking 3 or 4 more coats on the lock plate and all the browning will be complete. This process is SLLLLLLOW!

Start again on the stock tomorrow and see what i can do with the crack.

After oiling the barrel with boiled linseed oil, its done. I need to pump some hot soapy water through it to clean out some steel wool and then run some Flitz and clean it again before fitting the front sight.

Ended up not putting any more stain on as i put some brass and the lock on to see and i think its perfect the way it is.

What do you think Corey?

And damn you! Now i want a cva hawken after working on this one for all these weeks!

Also, I think the gray lock color is perfect! It really sets the rifle off. I have to touch up some spots on the barrel near the front sight and the browning will be complete. I will start with the tru oil tomorrow if you give me the thumbs up on the stain color.

Jess is going to kill us but...... You're ramrod is way to short and needs a new one. You can do that at a later time when i send it back to ya.

Cain Outdoors http://www.cainsoutdoor.com/ sells ramrods called Super Rods. While they are not original looking, being black, they really are a great rod and reasonable in price. They work great and come in all sizes.. If you do not need a wooden one that is.

I was looking at 2, one for hunting the other for display.

saw too many things wrong with that rod that came with it.

figure it out once I get around to it.

Yes the 3/8th is what I get. Them Super Rods are about indestructable. I got one a long time ago when they were still brown and from a distance you'd never know it was fake wood. It is on one of my Tradition's Woodsman Hawkins.

I would bet you that the 23/64 would also work. Especially if the rod guides are tight. I measured one of my rods and it is .357 which is closer to a .359 23/64 rod. Because the 3/8th would measure .375 in diameter. You might want to measure a rod that works in his rod guides, and then go from there. I think the T/C and the older model rifles ran a little bigger.
