When your not using your sidelocks should they be left at 1/2 cock or just leave um down on the nipple?
One of mine came with a piece of leather that was in between them, is that a good way to store?

This question came up on another ML forum. Everybody seems to have their own idea.

I leave mine down on a bare nipple. I use Ballistol in the bore and never get any rust.

I've always left mine down on the nipple, just lately started
using a strip of 8-9 oz leather punched to just fit the nipple
to cushion the hammer. Not needed but do it anyway.

always left it down.

Some put a piece of leather across the top of the nipple just in case theres any oil in the bore, it wont run out the nipple hole and down the stock. All depends how its stored though.

I was always told to avoid using leather when storing your firearms because it can draw moisture. For that reason I have never left any of my handguns in leather holsters for any amount of time.

Guess that explains what thats for. Ill leave um down, they are stored laying flat anyways.
I was worried that if i left them up it would be putting pressure on the sear? and possibly causing
it to wear out.

I usually lay my flat on a table, but if I need to stand it up I put a rag down and store it with muzzle down.

Always left mine down n bare nipple. When i was a kid my dad lined my gun wall rack where the barrels layed on the wood with some old harness leather pieces and low and behold it rusted the bottom of the barrel of two guns that rested on the them. Was told it could have been the leather was used on an animal so would have salt from the swet thus causing rust. Careful what you use.
