PostSubject: Finished the sidelock   April 6th 2012, 4:21 pm

Heres the .45cal i bought off Carlos a little while back. Really a big step up! The original color was that typical european orange and so i stripped it, did a great deal of sanding, wet sanding and then mixed my stain to my liking. Only needed 3 good coats and it was just right. After the stain dried i used 0000 steel wool soaked in boiled linseed oil to buff the finish down and even rub down the stain on the forearm and lock area for a worn look on the areas that typically get handled. Finished off with Truoil and again, once it was dry, more oiled steel wool to buff it down to a low cheek. Came out very smooth!

All brass was antiqued as well.

Heck ya she shoots. I want to get some powerbelts for it if it doesn't sell off quickly. It would be a good deer gun but you know how the story goes with me LOL, got a closet full already. I was out popping jugs today at various distances, freakin fun seeing them explode!

Well I am going to shoot and enjoy her while shes here. I found some leather wads in 45cal a member gave to me to try out so this will be perfect! 60gr Goex 2f, leather wad, .015" olive oil lubed patch and home cast .440" round ball.

The rear sight sucks big time but I dont have anything else to swap it out with.

Beautiful job on the rifle! I like the fact that you've finished it with an aged look.
Unless you've been holding-out on the shooting range, I see other calibers in your collection but don't see a lot of .45's. Given you're in CO though, I'm guessing that .45's are not legal to hunt big game with.

We can hunt deer and bear with one. No elk.
