PostSubject: cabelas powderhorn scope 3x10x40   cabelas powderhorn scope 3x10x40 EmptyDecember 22nd 2012, 3:19 pm

I did purchased this scope last January and it been sitting in the safe since.
I finally got to see how she tracks so I did mount it yesterday and went out to the range to day.
I set up at 50 yards with the CVA Optima Thumb hole set up loaded 85 grains of BH 209 and the Hornady 240 XTP
First 2 shots high left both were in the same hole.I then turn the adjustment 180 degrees shot again same load dead center in height but left about 9" .
I removed the wind age cap made about 24 click to the right Bingo Dead center at 50 yard target .
I fired 2 more rounds again all 3 shots inside a Quarter,
I think move the height adjustment 360 degrees and fired another round bullet high on target,I then reset the dial to go back 360 reloaded and the next round went into the 3 shot group.
I will say not sure who make cabelas scopes but the clarity is excellent .
Eye relief about 4" at 5X

I've had Leupolds that wouldn't do that. Pretty impressive. Not sure of the longevity of it though. It's failed for some guys.

I have one of these in 3-10. I have it mounted on a white .504 I have been shooting 350-370 grain conicals, the load packs a punch in this gun. My experience is similiar to the OP. I have another on a .45 optima elite in 4-14. Both of mine have the bdc calibrated for a 250 grain bullet and a max load. So far no issue with either.

I called cabela's last night about the scope. They only show 1 model the 3-10 in the bargain cave. I suspected they are closing them out. The operator said the only ones they have left are the 3-10. I was looking to get another 4-14. Glass is very good for the coin. I bought both this year. Lifetime warranty.

Just to be sure, fire a group at 100 yds. If it's all OK there, you have a winner.

mine is still holding up with out any problems .I shoot the cva optime with 95 grains of BH209 and a 240 Hornady XTP mag: combo
I also tried the t/c SST in 300 grains Bonded bullet with the same charge.
I yet to see how the BDC works but I am about 3" high at 50 yards still high at the 100 so I would say I should be good out to 125 yards with no problems
I may have to get some time and work with the BDC at 150 and 200 yards.

Muley,
I've heard of the 3-9 powderhorn failing ,but none of the 3-10's. I've got 2, so far so good.I guess you can destroy anything if you try hard enough.

I bought a third one, a 3-10 in silver for my knight, and it failed at sight in. The scope would not move (tapping after each adjustment in the same way) for 4 shots, then decided to move all 4 adjustments at once on shot 5. Cabelas replaced it with a black one, and that one is so far, so good. Warranty is good.

my 3x10 powderhorn is going back I was out today shooting the optima and for some strange reason the adjusting turrets will not change the point of impact on paper.I was trying to lower the shot at 50 yards so I went 12 clicks down the bullet still group 2 1/2" inches high over center.
I tried tapping the scope but no luck I shot a total of 12 shots all stayed in a 2" group or less over center of the bull.

When I first purchase any new scope I always like to re-center the windage and elevation adjustment knobs just to make sure they did it right from the factory and they work properly.  If the scope won't adjust it might be worth re-centering them yourself and starting over with sighting in.
