Shooting Black MZ yesterday with Winchester W209 primers left me with a real good nasty crud ring. Later in the evening I went to town and got some supplies, new bag rests, bore brushes, cleaning jag for some other rifles and I also spent $8.50 on a package of the CCI Inline MZL primers. Cooler temp supposed to help tame crud ring. Dang things actually worked! I can get up to 4 shots before I feel the crud ring building up. The real test will be with T7 and that comes in a few days.

Will be interested in the results with T7.  I like T7, hate the crud ring...

Jon, any of the cooler ML primers will help with the crud ring.

In my White .504 which uses #11 caps (cci) 65-80 grains 777 2fg. I fired 13 rounds without swabbing last time out. I shot maxiballs and fpb's. Must be the barrel. I was hitting my mark on the load with the ramrod.

Only drawback with using caps in an in-line is the mess you have to clean afterwards , but they work like a charm !

Is the T7 crud ring due to hot ignition?

I had been using 3F T7 through my Ruger as I wanted to replicate the 45 Colt load for hunting, but I've recently been shooting a lot of 3F Olde Eynsford to try out real BP, and supposedly those and Swiss all give similar levels of performance.

I'm nearly done breaking in my Lyman's Deerstalker with the Pyrodex my father gave me when he gave me the pistol. I'm uncertain as to which I'll likely use as I want to stock/carry only one powder. Olde E sure is less expensive! And the fouling isn't so bad in my pistol.

I've noticed with Swiss that the fouling is a lot less than the Wano I normally use.

Never had that crud ring with the MZ .  I was shooting FFFG 777 thru my CVA Buckhorn 90 gr to be exact.  I had fired about 14 rds thru it and started getting some hang-fires and of all days to forget my nipple pick,  anyway have you guys found the crud ring to be worse with the FFG or FFFg formulation of 777 ?
