PostSubject: Simply amazes me   January 7th 2014, 3:23 pm

You know, we often get members here that are brand new to muzzleloading and often have a lot of questions on what they need, what would we recommend for such and such, ect.

On another forum I visit very little, theres a guy asking if its okay to use Goex black powder in his CVA Optima and if he'd need the blackhorn209 breech plug.

Man, there are some straight up hard headed people in this world!

One says to get it in writing from the factory just in case the goex is to much and the barrel lets loose.

Another is arguing with me that CVA says to use the blackhorn209 plug for all loose powder so hes sticking to what they say regardless.

He also thinks the flat faced BP thats comes factory is only good for pellets  lol!

I tell you, you try to save folks time & money and they just don't seem to listen. Luckily for us, folks that visit and sign up on this forum seem to soak up what info we give them and learn from the advice and proceed to have success.

I don't know about you but I sure in hell am very glad we have the group of members on here that are easy going and offer advice that's actually helpful to others to learn off of.

Yep, i was there. That sexual intellectual said this:

It's not a special plug for Blackhorn 209, it's a different plug if you want to use loose powder instead of pellets.

Oh Yeah? I HAPPEN TO KNOW FOR A FACT THAT GOEX WILL BLOW UP YOUR GUN ESPECIALLY IF YOU USE THE EXPLOSIVE 4XXX KIND. However, you can buy my special nitride-nickel-titanium magic spray and treat your gun so it won't blow up even with explosive Goex 4xxx. Send postal money order for $89.95 for a year's supply to:

I agree with you Jon, but I will tell you that when I bought my APEX (new) & had hang fires & no fires with BH209, I looked in the manual & it didn't even have the APEX in it. It was dated 2008! Anyway, I was brand new to CVA, fresh from TC's so I called the factory & they told me that the factory provided plug was only good for using White Hot pellets. Sometimes CVA is at fault for giving their customers bad information. I so wish they'd get away from the policy of telling customers that they all need to shoot White Hots & Powerbelts!!

In any case, I enjoy this forum & because of it I was able to find out a wealth of info that pertained specifically to the CVA inlines making my APEX the Bh209 burning tack driver that it is :)Why people ask for advice & then not only refuse it, but argue with you as well, I'll just never know. I guess comedian Ron White said it best when he said, "You can't fix stupid!"

Yep, but thats what happens when you team up with a company, all they tell you is whitehots and powerbelts LOL. In truth its not customer services fault, they have the follow company policy.

TC tells you to shoot Shockwaves, and even induces some with a new gun.

I'm sure Knight pushes their bullets too.

Yes they do, but I'd take either over a Powerbelt! At least on the Knight site, they offer the Bloodlines, Barnes, & Speer

I've learned a lot from the forum.  I found that shooting muzzleloaders has been a real enjoyable experience.  I don't need to learn everything from my mistakes.   Very Happy

That's not the point. Every manufacturer is going to push their products. You can't blame them for that.

CVA should push the 348gr PB's, and say not to use more than 90 gr of powder. PB's would have a much better rep then.

Actually it is exactly the point. All of the bullets Knight sells are Knight branded thru their site, but all built by high quality bullet makers. Bloodline/Lehigh, Red Hots/Barnes, Jacketed HP/Speer. Same with TC.....Shockwave/Hornady SST. I don't blame any of them for trying to sell their product, even if they don't own the company that manufactures them, but CVA is the worst that I have ever talked to as far as trying to make their customers feel that only CVA products will work in CVA guns, or that they will always work the best in CVA guns. I think that's a shame.
I agree that the 348 is a good bullet, I also have no prob with the 338, or the 300 in the 45 cal as long as they are used properly, but CVA is more concerned about total sales than fixing any problems or educating their customers.
I am not trashing CVA products & I love my APEX. I've also owned a Wolf, Optima, & an Accura V2. All great shooters & guns, but if I had only listened to CVA's advise right out of the gate on my first one, I would have never bought another. This forum is the reason that I did & the reason that they all shoot BH209 without an issue Smile

When I owned a TC Omega. TC told me the gun was made for sabots, and conicals wouldn't work. Was it coincidence that they didn't sell a conical made for the 1-28 twist?

I'm pretty sure that's because the 1-28 twist design was created to stabilize sabots & not designed around conicals, but some guys say they shoot them quite well.

It did. I used Thors, PB's, and FPB's, and it shot them well. It's the fact that TC pushed their Shockwaves that bothered me. Even after I told him that sabots were illegal in Colorado. A fact they seemed clueless about.

Anyway, I don't fault any company for pushing their products.

I know someone who kills elk every year with a 348gr PB, and 80gr of BH 209. I'm seriously thinking of using the same setup next fall for elk and muley's.

Over here most guys selling you the gun know next to nothing about them , so you have to find out for yourself what the gun like or dislike.....
