PostSubject: Accura Breach Plug   April 20th 2014, 7:00 am

Will the OEM breach plug on an Accura MR ignite B209? I see post were the plugs are switched over to the Western plug. The Western plugs are stainless, and the oem plug on my rifle has the Nitride finish on it, which looks very nice. Iím not big on the idea of having a stainless plug on my rifle. I donít think it will look as nice.

Yes, the stock BP will work with BH 209 if everything is perfect. That means to set the headspace tight, use magnum primers, drill out the flame channel, and keep it spotless with a drill.

An easier solution is to let Jon modify your BP for BH 209.

Yeah I can mod it so its 100% reliable. Thats a good question though, will they nitride the BH209 plugs as well?

When I got my CVA Optima Pro, I wanted one of those modified breech plugs, but I could not find anyone who sold the original hex style with the modification, so I simply stuck a small, thin #4 metal washer in the primer pocket and have shot over 200 rounds with BH209 without a single misfire. †The only misfire I've had was shot #6 of 11 on my first outing where I did not use the washer with the breechplug, just used standard Win209 primers. †I've used Winchester, CCI209M and Federal 209A's with 100% success since then. †Even after 32 shots in one session without cleaning the stock breechplug, I could still see light through the flash hole. †

When I get home, I take a 7/64" drill bit and chuck it into a drill. †I then hand twist the flash channel from the primer side and a nice snake of carbon comes out on the drill bit. †I only use the drill chuck to hold the bit firmly in place. †I then use the wire from a stripped twist-tie to clean out the flash hole with Hoppes #9

I would guess that the firm fit of the primer against the breech face ensures the flame cuts through any crud in the flash hole and reliably ignites the BH209 rather than escaping back around the primer as I get zero blowback against my scope.
