Watch this video at the 3 minute mark to see why I decided to use the 370gr maxi instead of a PRB. Especially, since my Renegade is just a .50. I think 370gr sounds much better than 177gr.

I'll be hunting for bear from now on, and I want a reliable load. This guy was using bait which is illegal here, but I fully expect to have close encounters just like this video shows.

I use 370gr Maxi's in my Rolling Block with 90 to 110gr 2F and they pack a heck of a punch.

I'm using 75gr of Olde Enysford 2F. That's equal to 85gr of regular Goex.

Out to 75yds it still has 1100 fpe. Should be plenty for a black bear.

Hopefully, you won't be sitting on the ground and shooting it high in the lungs. If it's broadside, break both shoulders or spine shoot it.

Neither of the two bears I killed ran towards me. They both ran laterally.

Not wisdom just experience...we have a few grass eating critters here that must be shot with conicals as well and big heavy conicals at that , and if you want to use PRB it must be in the shot-put size range !

We have a couple. An elk/moose with a .50 PRB is marginal for me.

Pete the animal here that most people tend to use a too small calibre for might surprize you ...the Zebra.

They are extremely tough and you need the same bullet you'll use to hunt Buffalo with to put a Zebra down.

You're mentioned that before about the Zebra, I still think of them as a horse, but they must be tougher, because they shot horses down with the Walker.

I'd be embarrassed to tell you how many 7mm Nosler Partitions it took to put down the one I killed. All of them were in lethal spots but the zebra just didn't react.

Not only the Gemsbok will skewer you but the Bushbuck will actively hunt you after wounding it.

Agree with the Maxi in the Renegade for black bear but only because the shallow groove 1/48 twist rifling will probably shoot it better.

If I was using a roundball shooting barrel a .50 PRB and 90+ gr FFg would do but I would prefer a .54.

My plan was use the maxi for bear and elk, and a PRB for muley buck.

If I had a .54 i'd use the PRB for everything.

I worked up a load this morning with 100gr of Olde Enysford, and a PRB. That's equal to a bit over 110gr of regular Goex. Very accurate. Which surprises me with the shallow rifling on the Renegade.

I may go with this instead of the maxi. It has to be close to 2100fps.

Still less recoil than the maxi with only 70gr.

I'm trying to make the bear hunt as challenging as possible. Now i'll need a perfect shot.
