PostSubject: How many shots before your barrel is broke in?   July 20th 2014, 5:58 pm

I read this on another forum and just had to laugh because its so true.

Someone asked how many shots it takes before your barrel is broke in? One reply was, After the first shot your barrel is wearing out, not breaking in.  lol! lol!

But if looked after it will take a couple of hundred years to completely wear it out !

200 strokes with JB Compond your barrell is broke in. Taking out any  micro high or rough spots in barrell.  Probably not in your life time you will wear your barrell out. It will wear you out first.

You can wear a barrel out quickly, in a matter of minutes if your barrel is on an M-60 or any automatic weapon. But no one can load and shoot fast enough to wear out a modern muzzleloader's barrel in a decade or less, especially with pure lead bullets.   Shooter

Even with the M-60 you'll have to put a couple of thousand rounds through it before it will be done for....

A new GPR takes about 100 shots to be at it's best. You can use JB, but shooting is more fun.

You can say it's wearing out, but I think it's just being polished. Just like what JB does.

Even if it is wearing out it will take more than a lifetimes to shoot it out.

Especially, with a PRB. A lubed patch is pretty easy on a bore.

A lubed lead conical must be easy on the barrel too.
