PostSubject: ...22 AMMO .........   September 19th 2014, 6:40 am

scratch
Went to Cabela's yesterday to check on some 22 ammo for my sons and was told it was 1 box per customer. So naturally I was pissed. (IT'S 66 MILES ROUND TRIP TO CABELA'S).  I checked with the roving salesmen and he confirmed that it was 1 box per customer no matter the amount. He said there was no difference between a box of 50 or 100, 1 box per customer. I then reached to the rear of the shelf and pulled out a brick of 400. I said with a smile on my face, I'll take this box. His eyes got the size of saucers. He didn't know that brick was back there. The salesman just smiled.
I then went to check out the rifle sale and asked to see the HENRY lever action that was on sale for 250.00. They were all gone. Pissed again Exclamation Exclamation Exclamation  I asked to see the Marlin 60. He gave me one to check out and said it costs $260.00. He then handed me another rifle. He explained it was a Marlin 60 with different furniture as he put it. This one had a synthetic stock. Same rifle except for the stock and this one goes for $140.00. Big difference just for the wooden stock. I bought it and the I bought a 4X Nikon scope and rings. They are going to mount the scope and bore sight it. I'm sure I'm going to have to tweak it when I get it. Now it's time for this old guy to have some fun. Exclamation Exclamation Exclamation

I love the feeling of bringing home a new gun.  Feels like Christmas morning. To each his own, but I personally don't like letting them set my gun up.  I like to be able to control eye relief from the scope, loctite on the base screws, crosshairs being straight, etc....  Congrats Hawg.  Very nice set-up!  Hope she's a shooter.

The most dangerous thing you can do (to your wallet) is to just "run in" to Cabela's or Bass Pro for a box of ammo. You'll come out $400 poorer. Shocked

Most of us get a wake-up call ( 1 or 2 boxes/purchase   Evil or Very Mad ) like you did hawg regarding 22 ammo.  The only way to get around it is to stop whenever or wherever you can and stock up.

You guys are all correct........

Marty, I'll be stopping more often to check for ammo.

Bob, You were really close.........My bill was $ 405.27...........

Tony.
Normally I mount my own scope because every ones eye relief is different. I am going to remove the scope when I get it home and DON'T LAUGH, but I am thinking of putting a 4X12X Question REDFIELD REVOLUTION that's new in the box. It's a 1" tube like the Nikon that they put on.
THINK ITS TO MUCH SCOPE Question Question Question Question Could be fun shooting 22 casings at 25 yards or more. Laughing

Trouble is that scopes like that aren't usually able to get the focus, parallax, etc. right at short distances (< 25yds.).  I'd stick with the 4X.

Ray, I'd be all over the 4-12.  Being able to have 4 power for hunting and go to 12 for plinking and target shooting is what I would want.  Heck, I have a 4-16 on my 17 HMR.  Love the 16x when I'm target shooting!!
